I heard on WRAL something about an event going on at your business. Well, I was curling my hair and didn't catch the date or time..

    Please do tell.

It is a fund raiser for someone with a sickness right?

Would love to come help out. Is this advertised somewhere on here, if so, I missed it.

    thanks,
    Pattie

    Pattie,

It's an all day event to benefit the brain cancer center at Duke. Remember that Denton's wife Julie is battling brain cancer? He wanted to give something back.

There will be cotton candy, a silent auction and all sorts of other stuff going on throughout the day.

    Received From Denton:

    Dear Local Business,

On December 3, 2006, my wife, Julie Lee, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Though modern medicine has made amazing strides towards a cure, there is still a great need for research funding.

The response to the news from the community has been awesome and humbling, but I still feel moved to help in any way that I can. On April 14, 2007, my business, Sluggers, will be hosting an all-day event to raise money for brain tumor research. If you feel so inclined, this is where you come in. I am asking local businesses like yourself for gift certificates, prizes, donations, whatever you feel moved to do. If you cannot help, I thank you for considering it and hope your gift will be made in the form of prayer for Julie.

Sluggers is a batting cage facility with basketball court, infield, horseshoes, and I also run an after school program. On April 14, we will be hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, youth home run derby, free throw contests, and other contests. We will be having hot dogs, cotton candy, Sno-cones, baked goods, inflatables for the kids, and Miss North Carolina 2005 will be present in the morning. So far, as is our goal, everything has been donated. Your gift certificates or donations will be utilized in one of three ways: prizes for contest participants, silent auction, or raffles.

All proceeds from the day will be given to the American Cancer Society for use specifically on brain tumor research. Thank you for considering this request. For privacy purposes, I will supply my tax identification number only if requested.

Thanks for the info you guys.

I'm almost as excited about the Silent Auction as anything else for the weekend. I have a list on my website of all items currently in my possession. There are more, but I want to see them before I add them. Here's the list:

And here's the list of the days events:

One request from you guys. Some of you men (or women) get off your butts, get two friends, and come play basketball. Have your kids do the same. It's the one area that I haven't had much response. Three teams in the adult division so far.

Anyway, thanks for your kind words (and, as always, your prayers) and come see us this weekend. Even if it rains on Sunday, I'm keeping the Silent Auction and 50-50 Raffle open till 7:00 pm. Thanks again.

I would like to take a serious minute here.....

This is a tradgedy that has befallen a wonderful family. I don't wish to go into detail but I have oft times thought of Denton and his wife very fondly. I tend to recall people who have been kind to me - especially when it was in a time when things were rough. THey are good people and a true asset to the community.
I wish them nothing but the best and will make it to SLuggers to make my bids for the silent auction and enter the raffles. Man I love raffles....
I hope to see a lot of my 4042 neighbors there. I first met Denton on 4042.
He and his wife are just like us. We need to help each other out when ever we can.

Thanks Peppercorn for your kind words about my son and his wife. They are wonderful young adults who are trying to deal with something no young family should to deal with. However, we believe that "if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it". I want to thank all of you at 4042 who have supported Denton and Julie with your prayers. The fundraiser was a true success....I wonder how much more money would have been raised if Sun. had not been so windy and rainy. I'm sure Denton would welcome any checks for the Brain Tumor Center at Duke. The address at Sluggers is
9180 Cleveland Rd., Clayton, NC 27520. Thanks a bunch and God bless.
