I'd like to sneak away with the wife for a few days next week and spend some time at a smallish motel, maybe family owned, independent, and right on the ocean in the N Myrtle Beach area. Can anyone recommend someplace?

Boy, I remember those days! Used to stay at the Aloha Motel, or the Thunderbird. Of course most of these small motels have been torn down for the high rise condos now. There are a bunch of small old motels in S. Myrtle Beach. Let us know if you find one in N. Myrtle and end up liking it.

I figured out several years ago that this time of year you can stay at many of the bigger resort type hotels for close to the same price so I've lost track of the smaller places.

As far as the condos, we like Carolina Winds. Their website is carolinawinds.com. This time of year you can get a 1 bedroom angle oceanview room for about $60.00 per night. They are on the north end of Myrtle Beach. Another place in N. Myrtle Beach we have stayed is Beach Cove Resort. They also run great specials and even have a live webcam. Their website is beachcove.com.

  5. :iagree: This time of year you can get great deals at nice places. Check out the Avista. (unless you really want a smaller place)

The Sea Dip is family owned (I think) and is just north of the old Pavilon location. Its a decent place as it stands among giants. We've stayed there a few times and found it okay for a night or two.

Yeah, I sorta would like to stay in a small place. I used to stay in a place called the Holiday Inn. It wasn't affiliated with the chain tho. I stayed there several times and really liked it. I like the places that you can step out of your room and see the ocean, even if its just on an exterior corridor. I really don't care for the tall high rises that you have to go down the hall, ride the elevator, and cross the lobby, yadda yadda, to get a breath of that ocean air.I will keep lookin and thanks for the input :)

    Sea Echo

A few years ago, we stayed at such a place a Myrtle Beach. A coworker had been going for years to Sea Echo and recommended it to us. It is an older - "more like home" kinda place. It was operated by a family - older couple and their son who almost appeared to live their themselves. It was a 2 story place with a pool, a block back from the beach with an awesome little breakfast place next door. My husband really liked the homey feel and how the owners wanted to talk and get to know us. We usually ride by when were are in the area and it appears much the same as it did when we stayed there. If this sounds like what you are looking for - give them a call.

I know I'm probably late, but for the future, this place is at Cherry Grove and has been there a long time, at least since I was in Jr High back in the 70's.

Well I didn't have any luck with the small motel so I went with the Ocean Drive beach and Golf Resort. It was a nice place and was right on the beach. It had a couple of nice pools and hot tubs, with clean rooms. That's about all we need. We got a good deal too.
