Saturday I was digging through my shed. Hot, sweaty and itchy. ewww
Sunday afternoon I notice a red welt on my leg. Right let, inside calf.
REd welt got to be about 3.5" in diameter by tuesday. THe center is a darkened scab slightly recessed and may be only slightly larger.
Today red welt is smaller but is sore when I walk and quite sore if i push near the area. There seems to be a line going up from it also? or is that my imagination. And for the record - though it more then likely has nothing to do with it, my left kidney is sore today.
i have looked on the internet and only find horrendous pics of brown recluse spider bites. THis doesn't look like any gangeraous mess I have seen pics of.
should I have this checked or just ignore it since it is only a bug bite?

Have it checked, you probably need an antibiotic.

When I was pregnant with my oldest son, I had been bitten by a spider. It had swollen up that day and the area where it had bit me was VERY red and painful. I figured it for a regular bug bite. But It started looking like a risen. I finally went to the doctor and they said it was a spider bite. The doctor had to lance it. When he did this thick greenish pus-like fluid came out. The Doctor said it was rottening my skin. Till this day I have a dime size, hole of a scar.( 9 years later) So, yes, I'd go to the doctor. Better to know if it is a spider or not. :)

It's better to be safe than sorry. I think a trip to the doctor might be a good idea.

:D It's better to have gone - and not needed to :D

    Pepps,

DH has been bitten by a brown recluse, your symptoms sound classic.

I was bitten by a black widow on my neck a few years ago, and their bites are very different.

Please go to at least the Doc in a Box. You need antibiotics.

BE CAREFUL!!!! I know that we have many Black Widows around. They seem to love both our shed and our charcoal grill!

Hmmm, lets think about this. What would you do if it was on one of your 4 legged babies?

Go get it looked at silly!

    Spider bite

You should go ahead and have it checked; I've always heard that a red line indicates blood poisoning.

No, I didn't go to the docs but the bite area seems not to have changed much, it's better if anything. I am on antibiotics for bronchitis - ciparo. Plus I used a Drawing salve/acne medicine on it and it has worked wonders. THe pain is gone and I can touch it now. It may have been an interesting spider that bit me but I do think it is on the way to recovery. It did get bigger before it got smaller though. But like I said it doesn't hurt me to walk anymore or to touch it.

Thanks you for all your concern! :D
I can only imagine how everyone will be after the surgery.
