Squirrel Problem In My Yard And On My Deck

Is it mating time for squirrels? We seem to have three or four that hang out in our trees and then come onto our deck. They are not afraid of us in the least bit. I, on the other hand, am dearly afraid of them. All I can think of is the Chevy Chase movie.

I have never owned a sling shot or water gun(s) but bought them recently to use on the squirrels. Neither seem to work, of course I am not real good with the sling shot. I have even banged on the tree limbs and the squirrel(s) will just stare at me.

I saw two trying to mate on one tree limb and that is why I am wondering if this is the season. They also try to eat my bird feed and I will not put up with that.

    Suggestions and help are needed.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

Add some cayenne pepper to your birdseed. Birds can't taste it and squirrels can't stand it.

  4. Our cat scares the squirrels away! (About the only thing I like about him)

I already tried this....see how great minds think alike. They are so aggressive so I wonder if they would actually attack us or not.

My dad has a parrot and from what he says, birds love hot things, because they can actually taste it. They give their birds hot peppers as treats and they love them, Cockatiels and the Parrot alike. They have very dull tastebuds, thats why in alot of specialty bird foods you find dried hot peppers.

    Kaci... any input on that?

Thanks for the belly laugh. When I bought the slingshot the guy stated to put out some poison or something and both the teen and I stated.....um no! We don't kill but we also don't want aggressive animals around. They seem to like the stupid water guns..........ugg!

My air pistol does a good job. You should see how high they jump. Even my dog laughs at them.

Had the Time Warner guy come over the other day and he saw me out on the deck with the sling shot. Immediately he asked if I had a squirrel problem. He grabbed my sling shot and ran off 4 squirrels.

His suggestion was to buy some Red Fox Urine at Walmart or ****'s. Says they are predators of squirrels. I forgot to ask if it has a smell.

Anyone know about this and if it has a smell?

But will you make sure to run them off for a period of time......talking about weeks? Heck, I could drink the beer and walk around with my sling shot but those things now look at me, smile and wink. I swear they do!

Get rid of your pets before it turns cold---I used to work where there were a lot of oak trees thus a lot of squirrels. When it got cold they would get under the hood oi your car and gnaw the wiring. Had lotsa upset folks out there over that.
