    SSS NJROTC Recognized Nationally

SMITHFIELD-- The Chief of Naval Education and Training has announced
that the Smithfield Selma High NJROTC program has earned the prestigious
Unit Achievement Award and has authorized all 2004-2005 SSS cadets to
wear the unit achievement ribbon. Each year, 10% of the nation's NJROTC
programs are given this special distinction. This award is based on the
overall performance of the unit to include drill, academics, community
service, marksmanship and military bearing. The Smithfield-Selma High
NJROTC is one of only four schools in the state to receive this award.
The popularity of the program is exploding at SSS. Since 2003, the
student body has grown 11% while the ROTC has grown 40%. AS stated by
the area 6 Commander during the annual Military Inspection in February,
"The future looks bright for the SSS NJROTC program."
