Sgt. Gerry Mouzon, 49, was struck by a truck around 10:30 a.m. near N.C. Highway 50 and Timber Drive in Raleigh, Patrol spokesman Capt. Everett Clendenin said. His cruiser was also struck.

Mouzon, who has been with the North Carolina Highway Patrol since 1983, was taken to WakeMed with serious contusions but no broken bones. He was expected to be treated and released from the hospital later Tuesday.

The driver of the truck said he was traveling in the opposite direction of where the car was when he lost control of his vehicle, overcorrected and hit the gas instead of the brake.

Garner police are handling the investigation, and charges are pending, Clendenin said.

That is so sad. People really need to slow way down when driving or stay at home. My fear is that we may hear more incidents like this.
