Stay Home From Work

Discussion in 'Discussion Group' started by Barrener River Short, May 23, 2008.

  1. Ok we have all gotten those emails sent to us by friends and family. The one that says do not buy gas on a particular day. The effect is to hurt the oil companies. And we all know that won't work.

But what if we actually take it to the next step. On a particular day, the entire country stays home. I am not talking about Christmas day, but some day if everbody stays home from work, school, grocery shopping.... etc.

Stores wouldn't be able to open up. No paper would be pushed in offices. I think it would definitely hurt the economy. But we have to wake up our legislators and business people.

Stay home and play with the kids, sleep in late, take a nice long shower or bath. Do laundry, Take a walk, work on your tan. Just imagine if no one went to work and stayed home. It would be like just one huge ghost town.

Well if an employee did that I would think it was rather unprofessional of them. If you scheduled it as a vacation day far enough in advance, I would not have a problem, otherwise I would begin looking for a new employee I could trust for the future.

If I can't afford gas, do you really think I can afford to miss a day of work ???

  4. Can you afford $5.00 a gallon. Just this morning CNN was saying that we can see that by next summer.

Also its called a vacation day, sick day. etc. and yes I know there are jobs out there that if you don't work you don't get paid. I've worked to many of them in my life.

If for 1 month, the US would not buy any oil from other countries, imagine the impact that would have. Of course, that won't happen.

  6. very true,

but one day is more like a speed bump. Hopefully a big enough speed bump to wake people up.

Do you think the schools will allow the kids to stay home from school due to Diesel Fuel being so high? This is just wishful thinking !

For most of Europe $5 a gallon would be a bargain.

  9. True, but the last time I looked We aren't in Europe

You are right, unfortunately I don't think you would like the impact.

We are part of a global economy whether we like it or not, we have a number of other competitors that would like that oil. If you showed me you weren't a customer I could trust or honor your contracts/treaties, I would started sending my resources to India and China.

On this very day, China and Russia are in discussion about diverting significant amounts of oil directly to China.

I don't know if any one else heard, but Ford is laying off workers. Necause of gas prices they are suspending their making the SUV's. So now people are going to be laid off.

  14. Yea I heard that this morning also.

  15. I was justing thinking of a quote I had heard some years ago. I had to look it up just so I would get it correct:

Benjamin Franklin We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.

I also remember a quote from my Jr High School teacher, Mr Robert Krimmel way back in 1973. "Nothing is impossible, just improbable"

People want the gas prices to go down but are afraid to do anything. The people today have so much to do and are obligated to alot. You can't fault people for being scared. I try to conserve by not using my car as much> I plan my day now to do it in one trip. My mom used to tell us, "Stop complaining and do something about and if you can't then stop complaining." I still don't keep my mouth shut.

  17. Your mother is a very wise woman.

We all need to stop complaining and do something about it, But do it together.

My father owns a fleet of trucks. We haul gas, diesel, k-1 etc. We have actually thought about parking our trucks when the truckers went on strike a while ago BUT bigger companies like wilco, BP, etc. that have there own trucks and there own gas stations would never do that so we actually though why should we lose that day of business when it will never hurt anyone but us. I would LOVE to see gas prices espically diesel drop but we will see well over 4.00 a gallon i believe by August as the market closed up 7 cents on gas today at 6pm so every gas station will pay around 4.00to 4.10 a gallon for it at cost this weekend.
