http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14663786/ I really do want to cry over this. What a freak accident, so sorry for his wife and kids.............
I also feel sorry for the wife and kids, however Darwin has been waiting for this one for years. I still remember when he dangled the baby in front of that huge Croc/Gator. Still I will miss him!
People jumped all over him for rearing his children the way he was. Yeah it was kinda stupid and as a parent I wouldn't have done it. But then again as an adult I wouldn't have been in the cage with the croc. in the first place. He was doing what in his mind was a perfectly normal thing. Craig
^^I feel the same way about it, I wouldn't have given him MY kid to do that with, but I just watched an interview he did with Mat Lauer about that incident and it showed a different camera angle and it wasn't quite as close as those published pictures would have you believe. Lapse in judgement? Absolutely. Was the baby in any real danger? Probably not. I'd hate for that one thing to be what people remember about the man, he will be sadly missed.
To put it in perspective, most Americans don't even know who the Prime Minister of Australia is, but they certainly knew who The Crocodile Hunter was and where he was from.
"Got What He..." Steve didn't "Get What He Deserved" but he "Got What Was Expected". He didn't deserved to get wacked but you always expected that he might, that's why people watched. Probably better a poison dart to the heart than getting eaten by a crock. As far as him with his kid and the crock, Steve might have been bit, eaten, mauled at that time, but there is no way in hell he would have let that crock get to his kid. He would have stuck his head in his jaws first.
Most of his critics were people that the biggest danger they have ever faced was jaywalking. All we can hope for is to die doing something we enjoy and hope just one person respects you for what you did and the masses for what you were not scared to try. Running Man.
I agree with what has been said here already. I feel so very sad for his wife and children, and at least he went doing what he loved best. I commend him for the work he did with reptiles and other anmials. That was great. He will be missed for sure.
I can only say that a great wildlife conservationist has been lost, I can remember when we first got cable and Animal Planet...we were hooked on watching his shows.... I watched the In Memory video and just about cried watching it. Of all the things he survived it was just a freak run-in with a stingray that took his life.... I'm really just speechless about it. I've always wanted to visit Austrailia someday, and especially to go to his zoo... maybe someday I'll get there, and maybe it will still be there. If you haven't clicked the link to watch the video... you really should.
That is too sad for words. We were camping and i told my son not to call unless it was very important - this was important enough
Do all sting rays have these barbs? When we were in the Bahama's we swam with the Sting rays..... Like one swam right up on my chest! They were very velvety feeling and it was awesome!
I was looking at the headline news online the other day and had to re-read it several times to make sure I read it right. I'm glad someone with his passion went out this way, and without a lot of suffering ...
I've heard there are over 200 types of Stingrays, but most of them don't have the capability to sting. I wouldn't think the one's that you swam with, could sting, or the ones you can touch in these Aquariams. In the news reports, it said the cause of death was probably the barb (from the stingray's tail) puncturing his heart causing him to bleed to death.
We had just watched A show on The discovery channel (?) with him and the wife and kids traveling from North Dakota to Texas. Really a fun trip. Going to the national parks etc. His wife had to be somewhat prepared for something like that, but the kids? It must be awful. I liked watching his shows, and hate he is gone.
