My son is in 4th grade and he wants to join the strings program. I am looking for experiences/suggestions for local instrument rental.

We just got our daughter one at the Academy of Music in Clayton on Hwy 42.

I posted on Facebook & found a used Violin (correct size) that has been used the year before at another JOCO Elem. School. Cost <$80.00 + the same book. Bought it & will re-sell it when DS is done w/ Strings.

Craig's List is another great place to look.

We did not go w/ a NEW instrument or do the rent to own. Basically for <$80.00 we got the book & violin with hard case for about the same cash as most parents spend in 2-3 months.

Tarheel Music is where we rented my daughter's.

Suggestion.....I called neighbors who let her perform (tee hee) at there house every so often. Makes the kid feel special and you get a break from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

I have a Franz Hoffman Etude 1/4 violin for sale if you are interested. You will spend much more renting for a lower quality violin is what I found when I did my research.
