Smithfield, NC – The Johnston County Emergency Management Department reports that the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management has approved our request for state resources at the stump dump fire located on Loop Road, Clayton, NC. A helicopter with heat sensing capability from the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources will fly over the site today searching for underground hot spots. An irrigation system will be assembled today and Saturday in an effort to help saturate the hot spots with water. The desire is that the irrigation system will allow a slow penetration of water over a long period of time. We appreciate your continued patience.
