I searched, and it seems like it's been at least two months since there's been a rousing cell phone thread! My one question is this: With T-Mobile buying SunCom, does that mean that T-Mobile has the same coverage that SunCom had (which, from what I hear, isn't too great), or does T-Mobile have other towers locally to supplement their coverage? Thanks for any answers...
I can answer the suncom coverage , When i had suncom the coverage sucked . I got dropped calls all the time or roaming charges .. Not sure about T mobile buying them i hadn't heard about that .
My only thing to offer is that T-Mobile will be the only carrier of the new "Google" phone when it comes out. Just like AT&T is the only for the iPhone.
Heh, excellent timing, Michelle! I have my credit card out and was literally just about the click the "submit" button in another window to buy a T-Mobile phone. I had almost talked myself into it, with their 14-day guarantee (which I know is never as easy as they say it is). I'll wait a while, though, and see what other options there are. I looked at Cricket for their cheap rates, because I could live with not having coverage in the boonies, but it shows my house right in the middle of a dead zone. I wish cell companies would rent phones for a few days, so you could test the coverage before buying.
Glad I could help. Nextel is another one that stinks in this area. We switched from Nextel to Sprint which soon became Suncom which just became T-Mobile . . . The only one I haven't had is Verizon. Maybe they are better?
Verizon is best. They're purchase of Alltel will be final by the year's end. Alltel has the best coverage in this area. So when you with Alltel now, be prepared it will be Verizon in a couple of months.
Well, this shows that you don't know what you don't know........ Sprint did not change to SunCom, there is no possible way for that to happen. Sprint is a CDMA carrier and SunCom (was) a GSM carrier. You cannot mix the two, at least in this country. It was tried but failed miserably. Here is how things break down from the past until now from when I started in the cellular industry. I am not out of cellular and have been for over a year. Centel Cellular = Sprint = Alltel Cellular One = GTE = Verizon Bellsouth = Cingular = AT&T AT&T = SunCom = T-Mobile (in one market) AT&T = Cingular = AT&T (in another market) Sprint PCS = Sprint = Sprint/Nextel Nextel = Sprint/Nextel If you want some good info on carriers, phones and the general breakdown of the cellular industry and latest news, here is a website to visit: www.phonescoop.com. If I can encourage you to stay away from Cricket, I will. Great service, don't get me wrong but the phones are overpriced and the coverage is very limited. Don't wait for it to get better. It won't for quite awhile.
I have been on SunCom service for quite awhile. As a matter of fact, I just extended my contract for another two years because I did not want to lose my plan after T-Mobile bought them out. I can say that SunCom is and has been the best company that I have ever used. Yeah, the coverage may not have been as good as some of the others but I can say that mine worked quite well pretty much everywhere I went. I have no complaints. The customer service was the best until T-mobile bought them and then it became a nightmare. Since my plan is still the same, I can't complain about price. $69/mth, no tax, no fees, $20 share lines (unlimited as well), $20 unlimited text/picture messaging (on all five lines), Nationwide long distance, .10/min roaming outside NC/SC/VA/TN/GA. I think that's a pretty good package. The coverage is still the same excpet for a few places it works better and others not as well. I am still covered well enough for me.
You have got to be kidding about Suncom's customer service being better than T-Mobile's. Suncom was the WORST. If your bill was ONE day past due they would call you and every phone on your acct. and leave messages AND call your home phone. Then after you paid the bill you would still keep getting messages like that for a few days. Just my opinion.
They were great until the last few months when the buyout was in motion. When they were in the buyout stage and getting everything turned over to T-Mobile, they were horrible! You are correct in your accusation. I am talking about BEFORE the buyout. They were the best. T-Mobile customer no-service sucks.
