i have lived in Johnston County for 35 years. I have paid my county taxes for 35 years. I am a handicapped person, and I live alone, but I had never asked the county for anything, until a few days ago.I had a kitten that ended up being stuck up a tree for five days. I called the Sheriff’s Department two times, and I called Animal Control two times. Also, the local fire department does not get cats out of trees. I live one mile from the fire station; it would have taken five minutes for firefighters to get my kitten down to safety. I even called one of the county commissioners. Everyone told me there was nothing they can doWhat am I paying taxes for? Where is my money going? Why does everyone turn their backs on you when you need help? What is a person supposed to do? If someone ties a dog to a tree and does not feed it for days, he or she is charged with animal abuse. But the county can leave an innocent kitten in a tree forever and get away with it. This is also animal abuse. Our taxes keep going up, and the county does less and lessMy kitten had not had any food or water for five days, and no one I called would help me. I finally decided to call a tree service to see if it could help me. It did come out and help me. The folks charged me $100, but my kitten is safe and sound in my arms. I would like to know, Who should pay this $100? Where is our county tax money going? Why has the county stopped doing anything to help the citizens? J.A. JONES Cleveland community
I dunno, but I bet if you had posted for help here, you would have had alot of offers and ladders come up! Hope your kitty is better.
WHILE WE ARE AT IT WHY DONT WE JUST GO BY EACH DAY AND FEED AND WATER THE **** THING EACH DAY AS WELL!!! I CANT BELIEVE THE GALL OF SOME PEOPLE! I WILL SACRIFICE MY OWN LIFE SAVING ANY PERSON WHO LIVES IN THE MCLEMORE FIRE DISTRICT! IS THIS NOT ENOUGH FOR SOME PEOPLE???
I agree, cvfdcaptain if you are trying to make a point it would have been helpful to add commentary. I was concerned that you were hurt since some of your earlier posts.
:iagree: It would have been less confusing to start out by saying something like, "The following letter was published in the Smithfield Herald." Then we wouldn't all have read it as if it was the Captain talking. Didn't make any sense to me. I agree with you that the letter writer was way off base. I also agree with Cleo that he could have posted here asking for help and got all kinds of offers of help.
You should, Mr. Jones. If you had not let the kitten out he would not have been up the tree now would he? Why do you think the taxpayers should pay for your negligence?
I was confused too. In a previous post he said he was 33-so how could he have been handicapped for 35 years?
It's funny...I think he was half asleep. I am glad he shared though....even if it was confusing....
People love to play the blame game, when its their own fault to begin with. If its a "kitten", a person shouldn't be allowing the circumstances for the little fella to climb up a tall tree to begin with. That's sort of negligence on their part. County animal control should be able to help, but they should charge the owner $100 (like the tree service) to get the animal down. Enough charges like that and owners will think with their pocketbooks a little bit more. Its call accountability. There's two ways to look at it. Its either animal endangerment to allow the situation in the first place or its the cat's opportunity to learn something about tree climbing. Put its food down there and some milk. The cat can either stay up there or come down. To me, it was always rather a silly notion that fire departments should roll out expensive equipment (and tie up emergency personnel) to get a cat out of a tree anyway.
No.... if he was the chief and his peps wouldn't come help him, I was wondering why he would come to us before working it out with them..... now that he explained HE didn't write the letter it makes sense. (sort of like dis'ing his firehouse and that wasn't in character with how he has projected himself)
That's what my daddy would say, but 5 days? That's a really long time for a kitten. (But no, I would not have called the fire dept or the sheriff. They need to be protecting humans.)
