Teachers granted tenure; construction projects approved

    Board Grants Tenure, Approves Facility Projects

    SMITHFIELD-- The Johnston County Board of Education approved Dr.
    Anthony Parker's recommendation to grant tenure to a number of teachers, and gave the nod to the district's Facility Services Department to begin construction projects throughout the district.

    The Board approved architect fees for new school projects; negotiated
    bids for the new West Cleveland and Dixon Road Elementary schools; bids
    for tile and carpet at South Johnston High School, parking lots at
    Glendale-Kenly Elementary, Selma Middle, Smithfield Middle, and Polenta
    Elementary schools; HVAC in five gymnasiums-- Corinth-Holders, North
    Johnston Middle, Four Oaks Elementary, Wilsons Mills, and the AIG
    Center; acceptance of the Champion Warehouse deed; and, bids for
    demolition of the Champion Warehouse.
