Thing that gets me is that they're not getting the diseases by themselves. How do these diseases effect the boys? Oh, who cares...we're not trying to sell a medication to them... Once again, thank you baby boomers for the great cultural changes y'all brought to America...free love is really working for us, huh? (sorry for the sarcasm...I'm a little cranky today!)
I watched that segment on the news and then had to run in here and post the info. Anyway, Katie did mention that they're trying to come up with a vaccine for males too. I think it was for HPV but don't hold me to that. I've already had a talk with my 15 yr old DS about this and will talk with my younger two children when it's appropriate to do so. I'm going to have to find a time when I can talk to my oldest DS about it too, but he's so busy these days it's hard enough just to see him anymore. :-(
What do you think about the vaccine they are pushing so hard now for this? We got a handout on it yesterday and dr wants us to consider getting it.
My daughter is 14 and I'm opting out for the time being. Before she goes to college, she can decide for herself if she wants to do it. I'm not real excited about it. First off, I don't like being the first one to use any Rx medication (remember PhenFen..that led to people dying from Pulmonary Embolisms). I know it's been tested for a while in Europe, but I'd still rather wait a while. Guardisil (sp?) is a series of shots (3 I think), it's supposed to be painful (more than usual) and a few girls have died from reactions. Small percentages, if you're looking at odds. Also, it is about as hit and miss as the flu shots...hate for her to take it, have side effects and still get the disease because it wasn't the 'right' strain. Drug companies are in the marketing business now. A great job is to be a 'legitimate' drug dealer ("Rep"). Big money in it. Unless I have some kind of dread disease, I am sticking to the old standby's that are tested, tried and true (and cheap). "Since 1997, there has been a surge in the number of drugs withdrawn from the market for safety reasons, prompting many critics to question whether the FDA's accelerated approval process, funded in part by fees paid to the FDA by the manufacturers, has resulted in unsafe drugs being sold to consumers. " Here's a link to a list of stuff that's been pulled. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/prescription/etc/dozen.html
