Or, you can get your name on the do-not-call list.

Or, like I did, get rid of your landline. Haven't had a telemarketer call in months.

I don't get them here at home anymore since I am with TWC, but use to get them before and we get them all the time at work and now I sometimes get them on my cell phone. Just thought this was funny and a great way to handle things and wish I had thought of it before.

Some friends of mine have TWC and they received calls on Thanksgiving morning.

Telemarketers dont really bother me that much because I realize that many are just doing their jobs and most are courteous. Its those persistent buggers that really annoy most of us...and those automated DISH messages... What I really hate is the fax spammers who find out you have a fax and feel the urge to send you an ad for some sort of stock at 3:00 A.M. and of course the 'wierd' Caller-ID number that you can't call them back on.

    Here's my suggestions:

    1. Stop buying magazine subscriptions and the like and if you do, don't put information you wouldn't want sold. Lots of companies sell your information. FWIW, I believe TWC sells not only your phone number but your mailing address. I can't prove it, but I strongly suspect it.

    2. Watch how you call toll-free numbers. Think your number is blocked? Many companies have special toll-free service that automatically reveals your number from which you call, whether blocked or unblocked. Guard your home phone and you won't have as many sales calls.

    3. Just get an answering machine...even if you have voice mail. During those peak calling times, turn the machine on, set it for one ring and let them fire away. You've got the option to pick up the phone if its your sister from Omaha or you can it the stop button and abruptly cut them off. That always feels good and isn't as rude as hanging up on them.
