Does anyone know why they closed? Tried to go eat there last night and the place was boarded up! We liked it most of the time because it wasn't usually all that crowded (maybe that's why it's closed, LOL) and the food was usually pretty good. It took us about 45 minutes to get there after we had to wait for a NASTY wreck to clear on Covered Bridge Road, so we were starving and very disappointed. Ended up at Logan's at White Oak and it was better than usual, but had to wait another 45 minutes for a table. We were some hungry folks!

    Lack of business

Texas Steak House in Garner closed for lack of business & bad location. Actually you had a hard time finding it. News of their closing was in the business section of N&O about 4 Saturdays ago. Good indication they were smart if you state you did not have to wait on your past visits.

The one in Smithfield is still open.

We ate there for the first time about a week before it closed. It was ok but I thought LoneStar or Outback was better for the price. I am sure the Outback right across the street had something to do with decline in sales.

I don't know about that.. I've eaten at both.. IMHO you're paying for the name "Outback" when you eat there. I've had better steak, prime rib & shrimp @ the Texas Steakhouse. Since that one in Garner has closed, I'd rather drive to the one in Smithfield before ever spending another dime at the over-priced Outback. If I wanted to spend that kind of money on steaks, we'd go to Sullivans, Angus Barn or Ruth's Chris.

I feel the same way, Outback is good, but not quite worth the wait or the price. I forgot about the one in Smithfield, so glad to hear there is still one nearby. I found their prices to be a bit more reasonable, around $30 for the 3 of us, versus $50 if you go to Outback and we pretty much order the same type of thing. Lonestar here in Clayton is extremely hit or miss on their food and it's expensive, Logans is pretty good most of the time and fair priced. If you have a hungry 7 year old, the wait counts too! LOL

When you go to Outback you should get a burger and a blooming onion. Yummy and much more affordable. :)

We used to eat at Texas "back in the day" quite frequently, but over the past few years their food and service has taken a turn for the worse. I am not surprised to hear they closed. As far as Outback goes, I always order the same thing...Alice Springs Chicken.

Because they sucked major hairy ..... (you get the point)

Every time we went there - poor service poor food and watered down mixed drinks. I mean we could be the only 2 people in the joint and it would be the worst service!

LOL Koo! Tell me how you really feel!

I agree about the service, it was kinda spotty most of the time, we got our meal free once because it was SO bad, but most of the time the food was good once you finally got it. I mostly liked it because we didn't have to wait forever to get in, which apparently is why they aren't there anymore. I figured that was the case, but just wanted to make sure it wasn't for some other reason, just being nosy mostly! I don't usually get mixed drinks out because my frugal nature won't let me!

Boddie-Noell Enterprises owned and ran the Texas (concept), after working for BNE at a Hardee's (concept) in Newport News, Virginia as a manager it hard for me to understand how it stayed open as long as it did. Horrid pay scales, unreal labor goals and food cost goals.
