This weekend DH and I tried :lol:to install a new Honeywell thermostat,to make a long story short-the old one is hanging back on the wall.By the time we installed and wired the new one we had about 3 extra wires left over :lol: but we matched like with like and then went on programming,for this one needs to know what kind of unit one has,is it: 1.Heating&Cooling 2.Heat Pump 3.Heating only (obviously not) 4.Cool Only (also not the case) 5.Heat/Cool w. multiple stages etc.,etc. What is even worse is that you can't return it to the store but must ship it back to Honeywell.:x By the time the old one was back on the wall is was cooler outside then inside,since every time we were trying the new one out it was blowing hot air even while on the cool setting.
Be very careful about installing your own thermostat unless you completely know what your doing. I work at a heating and air conditioning company and we go on service calls ALL the time where homeowners have messed up their system trying to install one having a wire switched. You can cost yourself A LOT of money with this small mistake.
I had the same issue once. All of the diagrams of what wires go to which new terminals were off bit. Call the support line and they will walk you through it. Honeywell provided me good support on the phone and I got it all up and running just fine.
Actually had that happen to a digital programable thermostat that I installed a several years ago. Somewhere along the assembly line two of the connections were crossed between the gas/electrical connection settings.
Typically with issues like this they might have a customer support web page, possibly with updated schematics.
