Need ideas that won't cost an arm & a leg. Originally, we were going to go to Durham Life Sciences Museum. However, it would cost us $100.50 to go. I think that is just a bit pricey. We've been before but I never remember it costing that much. We've been to the downtown museums. Been to the Howell. Just wanted a day trip type of thing that was not going to be outrageous. School supplies wiped us out so far. Any ideas of some places around here to go? I would prefer not to spend over $50. Thanks in advance for any input. stephanie--mom to 7
Stephanie, with your brood, I bet they'd love this... Try letterboxing. It's like a scavenger hunt! You can read about it at www.atlasquest.com
NC Zoo in Asheboro has family memberships available for $59--that is membership for two adults and their children for 12 consecutive months. Awesome deal for a big family! Webpage says they have a baby chimp right now, very cute! Bring a picnic lunch to keep it really affordable, there are picnic tables outside the gates. https://www.nczoo.com/join/individual_family_membership_form http://www.nczoo.com/
And you can use it at the aquariums/conservatories in this state and nationwide. Some admissions are free with the membership, others are half price. I know Ft Fisher is free. There should be a list on the zoo membership website.
Thanks everyone. We have the membership to the zoo just can't go in the summer. Have one kid that overheats way too easy due to the one kidney deal. Try not to do to much w/ him outside unless it involves cool water. LOL. The letterboxing sounds so interesting. I think we may have to give that a try soon. Never had even thought about that one. We had thought about doing the aquarium as well. There definitely is a lot to do that doesn't have to cost a fortune. Keep ideas coming. I had never heard of the letterboxing thing before so I already learned something new on here. stephanie-- mom to 7
Is Goldsboro too far to drive?? You could check with Seymour Johnson AFB Fire Dept and maybe do a tour. For that matter, they could do one in this area. Some of the Red Hat groups have done the SFAFB one.
While in Goldsboro (Fayetteville has two locations too) try going skating at Round-A-Bout. We do that ever so often and have a good time. Not sure how skating works for you, though. Saturdays from 11:30 to 1:00 is slow roller session for those that are unsure of themselves with wheels on their soles. It's only $4.00 and includes the skate rental during slow rollers. Also, there's an IHOP down there nearly across the street in Goldsboro. Kids eat free during August at IHOP. Nothing like a big plate of pancakes after having all that fun on skates. They also have miniature train rides at Herman Park on Ash Street in Goldsboro. They also have a Putt-Putt golf and batting cages just down the street and across from the mall. Also several miles out from Goldsboro is the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park which is very beautiful, but might be a bit hot. Kinda sounds like I'm recommending a full day in Goldsboro, don't it?
We didn't do the full day, but we did go to the Roundabout at G'boro. We like their skating rinks (wood floors, carpeted areas with bench seating around the rink) but the one down there, didn't play very enjoyable music for kids. It was slow and sappy love songs and more appropriate for young couples skaters. We occasionally go down to Fayetteville just to do something different and we go to the one on Bragg and they play a lot of current popular music.
You could drive over to our home, and help us pack for our move, it would be free, and it would be lots of fun :hurray:
