Pet Owner Charged With Animal Cruelty Chihuahua Left In Hot Car Found Dead By Police A Selma man is facing animal cruelty charges after leaving his dog locked in a hot vehicle Saturday afternoon. Smithfield Police said a concerned citizen called officers from the Brightleaf Flea Market on South Brightleaf Boulevard after seeing the animal in distress. When police arrived, the animal was dead. Carlos Porras, 59, of Highway 96 North, Selma was cited for animal cruelty. Police said Porras admitted to leave his Chihuahua in his vehicle for one hour while he was in the flea market.
Speaking of this...... Yesterday I witnessed at White Oak an owner leave their dog in their car, but they left it running with the A/C on while they went shopping in Staples. Guess they're not worried about car theft.... but I do applaud them for leaving the A/C on for their fur baby.
Shoot, when I was at Food Lion the other day the cashier asked me if I left my kids in the car... umm, no. Apparently somebody had. A baby and a young child, locked in a car with the windows cracked while mom or dad or whatever idiot it was shopped.
Not that I would do it, but I could use the remote start on my Jeep to keep it running after I got out, it would run for 15 minutes before cutting itself off. Atleast that way there are no keys left in it and it could run with the a/c on for a quick trip in the store. Unless my animals are going to the vet... they stay home where they are safest.
Why can't folks leave their dog home??? Molly is awful dang cute, but she's much more comfortable at home lying belly up under the ceiling fan. Are folks that hard up for company?? :?
If I ever saw that a kid or animal was locked in a car in the heat I have no problem with breaking the window of that car, calling the police and let things fall where they may. I am 99.9 percent sure the cops will not arrest me, if they do it was worth it. As for the owner of the car, take them as they come.
As someone who made an unclear comment on this subject once who was then thoroughly flogged on this site, I must say that this is really unfortunate. It doesn't get much hotter here than late July. Even a few minutes in this heat would be unacceptable. An hour is simple stupidity. They can't blame this on the language barrier. The charge is animal cruelty. Is there such a charge as people stupidity?
They should do the same to him!!! My grandfather always used to say that a license is required for so many things but unfortunately having pets and having children is not one of them:banghead:
I hope that idiot gets paid back in pain for what he did. I can't imagine the suffering that poor dog had to endure. I hope that person never gets another pet.
:iagree: Absolutely! (There's a really bad Parvo outbreak in Harnett County right now too. Don't take your puppy anywhere, or let him walk around at the vet!)
