9-Month-Old In Need Of Life Saving Transplant - A Smithfield baby is in need of a life-saving transplant. Nine-month-old Joshua Ray was recently diagnosed with Citrullinemia Type I, and doctors at Duke Medical Center say he desperately needs a liver transplant. Citruillinemia is a rare inherited disorder caused by an enzyme deficiency. The enzyme is one of six key enzymes that breaks down and removes nitrogen from the body. The lack of the enzyme results in excessive accumulation of nitrogen in the blood. The disease is very rare, but it is now very real to Joshua and his parents, Jeff and Kim Ray of Smithfield . Friends and family are now working to raise money to pay for a liver transplant. Volunteers are also being recruited to help assist with fundraising activities. The family is working closely with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), a national charity whose goal is to assure that no child is denied a transplant or excluded from a transplant waiting list due to a lack of money. One hundred percent of all funds raised are used for patients’ transplant-related expenses, according to Arlene Davis with COTA. Donations to help Joshua receive a life-saving liver transplant can be made at any BB&T Bank, or checks can be mailed to COTA, 2501 COTA Drive , Bloomington , Indiana , 47403 . “In Honor of Joshua Ray” should be written on the memo line of the checks. Individuals or groups interested in volunteering to help raise money for Joshua’s transplant can call Carolyn Ray at 828-667-3656.

Did you guys see this? I can't even imagine what these parents are going through right now. Having to raise enough money to save your kids life? Unreal.
