Driver Injured, Dog Missing After Crash

Selma emergency crews work to free Katie Radford from her overturned vehicle Thursday on NC96 North. WTSB Photo

A Selma woman was airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh after she wrecked her car on Highway 96 about four miles north of Selma on Thursday. The Highway Patrol said 61 year-old Katie Radford of Waddell Street was traveling southbound near Thorne Road around 9am when she ran off the roadway in a curve, struck a ditch bank, and overturned 4 to 5 times in a field, coming to rest on its roof. Radford was pinned inside the overturned car until being extricated by Selma firefighters. She was transported by Selma EMS to a nearby ballfield where a medical helicopter was waiting. Radford’s pet, a small black and brown dog named Kelly, was inside her car when it crashed. The dog ran away from the scene and could not be found. Anyone who might spot the animal is asked to contact Trooper C.J. Bell at the NC Highway Patrol District Office at 919-934-2186. Radford was cited for exceeding a safe speed. Her injuries were not life threatening, Trooper Bell told WTSB.

I sure hope someone finds this baby and they are reunited
