http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,353719,00.html In a nutshell, the state of Nevada is contemplating sending the widow of Steve Fossett a bill for searching for him after he went missing last year. She has already voluntarily given the gov't $200,000 according to this article. I've never heard of someone being charged for a missing person's search. I guess it's because they know she's got the money. :?
I hydroplaned off of 40 and hit a road sign, and they sent me a bill for it. That was about 10 years ago, and they STILL haven't fixed that sign.....bunch of CRAP.
You ought to start contacting them and asking them when YOUR new sign that YOU paid for is going to be up!
I thought about it. I still have a copy of what I paid for. @ laborers, 1/2 days work, blah blah....oh yea, and the part about if I didn't pay it, I didn't get to register my tags or get my license renewed. fools. it was like, $283 bucks.
they sent a bill to the "missing bride" in georgia a couple of years ago. if the ******* has the right (since he has the money) to go out and fly around in experimental aircraft or whatever risking his life, and causing us to have to spend money looking for him, send him the bill. same with the idiots who go out in a canoe on a flooding river. idiots. on the other hand, during the steve fossett search, they actually found a plane that had been missing since 1964 or something...is that good, or just sad?
I know it does not seem right, but the alternative is you paying for the search (that is the collective you). I would have more sympathy if it was you or me, but we all know Steve pushed the limits (sounds like another Steve we all know) and I think folks that push the limits like he does should be responsible for the service provided, and as you noted, being rich probably did not help.
