Thrifty car rental did that to us too. We rented a car about 6 years ago when we went to AZ and I thought it was a bug on the window, but apparently it wasn't and they tried to get us for a whole new windshield. I never used Thrifty again.
We just got back from a trip to TX, where we rented a Thrifty car for a week - it was great. I would join Blue Chip, if I were you.
Just got back here from Florida today! We get discount code and/or upgrade special thru TravelZoo.com We also booked a four-stars hotel room for $45 per night special ($99 regular price) and very pleased.
I would stay away from Thirfty in Clayton. Bad customer service, Cars have high mileage for rental cars and slow getting you in and out. For just a short rental Enterprise in Clayton is OK, good rates usually too and cars are in better shape. Also have Hertz in Garner taht has good customer service.
