"Land Trade Following a closed session, the Clayton Town Council voted unanimously to move toward a land transfer with the YMCA of the Triangle that involves the East Clayton Industrial Area – which is home to Johnston County’s two largest manufacturers, Grifols and Novo Nordisk. ... On May 15, the Town Council will hold a public hearing and vote on this exchange and acquisition of property for economic development purposes. So what would the land swap do? Well, you’ve heard about a win-win – how about a win-win-win? This move would bring together the Town of Clayton, a world-wide non-profit and our local biopharmaceuticals hub in a manner that’s set to benefit each of these community partners. Earlier this year, the Town used $988,000 from our water/sewer enterprise fund to purchase a 19.84-acre tract of undeveloped land at 2115 Amelia Church Road, just south of N.C. 42 West near Johnston Health. The Town Council annexed the property and rezoned it for potential future use, but, at the time, ongoing negotiations prevented the Town from sharing more information. On May 15, the Council plans to vote on a resolution that would authorize the transfer that land to the YMCA of the Triangle in exchange for a 13.571-acre property the YMCA owns at 3798 Powhatan Road. Valued at roughly $1 million, that land is currently being used by Johnston United Soccer Association and, under the proposal, those teams will be able to continue playing on those fields for at least 2 years while the YMCA develops the new land on Amelia Church Road. The YMCA’s property on Powhatan is an ideal property for a future regional wastewater pre-treatment plant that will serve the Town’s industrial zone. The Town of Clayton is currently discussing leasing the back portion of that property to Novo Nordisk for construction of that treatment plant. The waste water treatment plant is necessary for the expansion of Novo Nordisk's manufacturing processes in Clayton; however, the Town will benefit from a regional solution that is easily expandable and can service other local and future businesses coming to the area. Novo Nordisk, the world’s largest insulin maker, is spending $2 billion to build its second Clayton manufacturing plant, which will result in the creation of 691 new, high-paying jobs over the next three years. The expansion will nearly double the biopharmaceutical giant’s workforce in Johnston County."
Since the parcel at 2115 Amelia Church Road is an 19.84-acre tract and the property at 3798 Powhatan Road is a 13.571-acre property. Will the YMCA also be building a facility there as well? Would be nice to possibly have a gym or something there for the entire community to use. Just wishful thinking
If I read the article correctly. The YMCA would be giving up the property on Powhatan Road where the soccer fields are. The soccer fields will become the water treatment plant. And in exchange for giving up the property on Powhatan Road they will be getting a bigger property over on Amelia Church Road. And there is nothing out there currently but a few homes.
The article said they would be building soccer fields on the new land. If that is the only place you were thinking of building a gym I misunderstood what you meant. I first took it as building a gym on the old soccer fields along with the treatment plant. Sorry.
