PRESS RELEASE(For Immediate Release 5/29/07) Johnston CountyMandatory Water Conservation Water demand in the Johnston County water system continues at record high levels. Although a mandatory water conservation order was in place over Memorial Day weekend, system demand did not decrease. Utilities operating data and staff observations conclude that the higher demand is due to lawn, turf, and ornamental vegetation irrigation. Residential and commercial customers of the County system as well as customers of systems supplied by the County system are requested to limit irrigation activities, as follow: - No irrigation on Mondays. - Irrigation on Tuesdays through Sundays on an odd date – even date basis in accordance with odd – even house or lot street number. (For example, owner of house no. 113 could irrigate on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. provided the date does not fall on a Monday.) - Customers are urged to irrigate sparingly. Systems supplied by the County include the Towns of Clayton, Kenly, Four Oaks, and Princeton, and private systems owned by Aqua N.C. and Carolina Water Service. The mandatory water conservation order will remain in place until further notice, and probably until the occurrence of significant rainfall in the area.
