So you have a bunch of government employee's who do a terrible job of delivering service to the people the agency was created to take care of, and can not manage a budget or forecasting so what do they do? They spend $3.8 million on bonuses when they have no money for "anything". You allow them to award themselves bonuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where was the oversight? Who signed off on these bonuses? Why do we allow this to happen?

Ostensibly, the claim is made that these bonuses are designed to keep higher echelon types from going to the private sector. I say let 'em go. If their focus is their pocketbook, they should go. Serving the VA implies to me, a higher calling, a passion for making a difference, and for making sacrifices to achieve that difference.

Whatever bozo approved these bonuses should be gone by the end of the day! The fact that we think you have to pay a bonus to retain people is a joke. So many people forget the government pensions and benefits that come with these jobs. I don't have to tell you about the pensions or benefits of being a federal employee.

This fiasco crosses party lines and is an indicator of the corruption we have in our government system. This very institution was set up to protect and support the very patriots this country relies on and yet we have fundamentally made it an enormous waste can.

Just y'all remember that the VA hospital system is a smaller version of "universal health care" touted by the libs.

I am under the strong conviction that they killed my father. Long story but they didn't try to help him. He served three tours in Vietnam working on the front lines with the NSA as a code interceptor. He came home a different man according to my mom. They went to the VA and they kept turning him away. Never once tried to help him with the issues he had after returning.

For once I agree with Clif!

DH was in the Air Force during the first Clinton administration when all this "universal" health care stuff started being discussed. All I could think is that it would end up just like the base hospital we were forced to use because we couldn't afford any other health care at the time. I know there are some dedicated folks working at base hospitals and VA's, but the care you recieve can leave a whole lot to be desired at times. The following could happen at ANY hospital public, private, or military, but a friend of ours nearly died from incompetance:

The guys wife calls me up and says her DH has a very high fever and a stiff neck, I tell her to get him to the hospital ASAP, sounded like meningitis (sp?) (had a boyfriend once upon a time who had it) She takes him, they give him some aspirin and SEND HIM HOME! No tests run, nothing.................to make a LONG story short, he had to be airlifted to one of the big hospitals in St. Louis and nearly died due to the delay in care because he did indeed have meningitis!

Another good friend had a C-Section, the incision got really infected from some hospital bug, she spent MONTHS going back and forth to the hospital because they had to take all her stitches out, clean it up, pack the wound and tape her incision shut! NASTY & PAINFULL!
