We would like to have a pool in our huge backyard. But first, we're researching on pool types: vinyl, fiberglass, and concrete. We found out that concrete is the most expensive kind and above-ground pool doesn't have much value with the house. That would leave us with two choices - vinyl and fiberglass. Which one is better and why? Does anyone own one and please with it?
Personally if you are going with an inground type pool the only way I would go is concrete prefably a custom sprayed concrete pool. Above ground it doesn't matter. Craig
pool choices If vinyl means a leave in liner, I would say no to that - tears in the vinyl are a pain to fix, and can happen easily with a pet's nails, wear and tear, etc. DH and I went back and forth about a concrete pool and a fiberglass pool. We ended up with a concrete pool. We loved that we could make it any shape we wanted. These were for pools/homes we owned when we lived in FL. When we moved here, we decided to join a public pool (a whole lot easier, and even though we thought it would be crowded, Tralee, one of the Riverwood pools is rarely crowded.) Best of luck. Have you talked with the guys at Clearwater Pools up at 40/42?
Stay away from fiberglass. The only difference between it and a boat is the side the water is on. With the types of soils we have here, and if water gets under it, this is what can happen. It will float.
We had an in ground vinyl liner pool put in 3 years ago. We researched for a year and talked to many people who had all kinds. Concrete was about double the cost so that was out and so was fiberglass because of all the negative comments I received from owners. We opted for vinyl with the non vinyl steps. We've had no problems with our liner at all. They actually put the steel walls up, cement them in and then put another type of cement product on the floor, etc. before the liner goes into place. We opted for a more expensive thicker liner and it came with a 10 year warranty. Talking to all of our friends who used this same process, we expect to have to have the liner replaced every 15-20 years, although I have two friends who also purchased the thicker liner and one has had the same liner for 22 years and the other for 27 without any fading or problems. Needless to say, we are extremely particular people and are still 100% satisfied with our purchase. On a side note about concrete, one of our best friends runs a concrete company and he even told us that too many times concrete cracks. No one will ever guarantee their concrete will not crack just like none of the fiberglass pool companies can guarantee against it cracking.
Geez! Is this picture of your own pool? If that's the case, how did you fix it? I feel bad for you! You are right about this situation; a saleslady who spoke with us earlier today that she warned us that it can happen to some fiberglass pool owner, just like your picture. It has something alot to do with our clay soil. Thanks for sharing.
The pool saleslady just showed us vinyl covering and you're right that they do sell thicker one, which we may go for that. We visited several pool companies and made appointments with them to have them come over to our house, for pricing estimation. I can't believe how expensive both concrete and fiberglass pools are!
Rising Sun hands down. I researched pool companies for a year and after speaking to tons of folks who have used them and other pool companies in the area, we decided to go with them, and have been extremely satisfied.
