Just started taking 40 million vitamins today. Question for you vitamin takers... Flax Seed Oil? I can't even stomach it (I have the liquid kind), I want to puke it up as soon as it hits my tongue! Could I put it in something else or on a salad maybe? HG out going to <vomit> (hopefully not, but I'm sure I'd feel better) :x
(outing myself here) I had gastric bypass surgery a little over a year ago and religiously take my vitamins since then. I never took them before. Since all of my meds have to be either chewable, liquid, or crushable it may sound a little weird! I will say my labs have been great since surgery though! I take a Flinestones complete in the am and pm, 1000mcgs of B-12 in the am (LOVE IT), an extra stength tum in the am and pm (calcium) and that is it! Life is good!
You can use whole flax seed instead, that way you get the fiber as well as the oil. Grind it up with a little coffee grinder and mix it with cottage cheese or yogurt, or whatever you want.
Pirategirl ... I've heard having the surgery requires you to make a lot of changes in your eating habits ... quantity and what you eat. Do you think you would have seen the same results without surgery IF you followed the same diet, etc... that you follow post-surgery?
Because I'm getting old and eat like crap, and don't work out. Something is better than nothing! :? Actually started working out yesterday. Changing the diet TODAY! No beer till the weekends!
I take a Flaxseed oil capsule, that way you don't taste it! Good luck with working out....I'm trying to get back in to it too!! It's so hard once you get out of the habit of making it a priority in your life. I use to go to the gym 3-4 times a week, every week for about 10 yrs, then my life got crazy and I went less and less and eventually just stop going.....
I can still eat! Ken says... Thanks Ken! Working on everything at one time! 5 cigs today so far also
The biggest difference is before I was hungry. Now, I am not. So, if I sould have only eaten 3oz of food before and felt full, then sure!
Is the full feeling psychological? Do you feel full now because if you eat to much it causes you to feel ill? <asking for honest curiosity>
When I had flax seed oil (the worst) I had to mix it in a protein drink with a tsp. of butter. My knees buckled when I tried it straight. If you got the flax from GNC, you can take it back and get your money back. My dietitian suggested the fresh ground flax seed. I mix with a protein shake also.
From what I've learned from "Body Sculpting Bible For Men": the only reason to take flax seed oil over fish oil is that fish oil has slightly more calories. /oh and I dont' know what "flax breath" smells like but "fish breath's" pretty rank. //used to take the high-priced bodybuilding vitamins but now just takes two generic one-a-day. ///used to test one of the most popular multivitamins for a living
Its a physical feeling of "pressure" not your typical "full". I stop eating as soon as I feel that pressure and have never gotten sick. However, I have eaten something (even just one bite) that my tiny pouch just doesn't like! I also exercise because now I am physical able to...my sis and I actually jog ever other maibox. It is a sight, but I don't care! In saying all of this, it was a personal choice and is not a "quick fix" as many believe. It was a wise decision for me that I am glad I made.
I had gastric bypass last spring. The smaller stomach restricts food intake, but the bypass of 3 1/2 feet of my small intestine restricts calorie absorption also. My dad asked why I just couldn't eat 800 calories a day, without the surgery...you don't get the feeling of satisfaction, always hungry ( I know because I've been dieting since I was 13). It's not a quick fix...I've been on a 'diet' ever since. I can take regular vitamins and I have to take 2 multivitamins and 2 B-complex pills a day, and I also take extra Biotin, to help re-grow my hair (hair loss is a common, but temporary side-effect of the surgery, because the nutrient/protein intake drops dramatically). I had a good experience, no bad surgical or post-surgical trauma...changed my life (and now I can exercise too, and it is FUN!). By the way, got a BIG kick out of Ken's side-effect list!
I did it straight twice (you'd think I learned my lesson the first time I almost puked it up) Now I have it in my salad and will try it with a protein drink as well. Thanks for the tip! Bought fruits and veggies today. <vomit>
I kept trying for about a week before I gave up the straight dose. Thought I would get use to the taste. That should have been peanut butter instead of just butter How was it on a salad? tolerable?
