Sat down last night and took a final look at all the canidates profiles and such and made my list. Just a thought though for whoever is listening. If you don't know anything about the people you're voting for, or if you're going by who has the coolest name, or some other silly method, I'd rather you didn't even vote.
Let me preface this by saying that I'm not saying that y'all are wrong and must do it another way. You know, in California, they send out what's called a sample ballot about a month or six weeks before the election. It's non-partisan, and merely lists the candidates, the offices they seek, and their affiliation. In short, it's exactly like the ballot. (It also includes the pending propositions, but I didn't bring it up, since the public doesn't vote on them in this state). At any rate, such a thing gives the voter a better knowledge of who's running for what, and (since you can take it into the booth), allows you to remember who you were going to vote for. Any idea why they don't do that here? Has it been thought about and rejected? What do y'all think of the idea?
The sample ballot was also available for Florida voters. Even the newspapers had one available which one was allowed to take into the ballot booth. Do any of the local papers do this?
If it is basically just the ballot in my opinion it would be a waste of postage. Is the lazy voter going to use it, I doubt it. The california mailer this year is approximately 150 pages, although primarily propositions.
Clif, Couldn't agree with that cartoon more. Too bad we don't have a "voting test" prior to voting. My guess is more stupid votes are cast than smart ones.
It would be nice if they only asked who is your US Congressperson, and two US Senators. If you did not know that, you would be asked to leave.
voter guide The News and Observer included a voter's guide in one of their weekend editions. It had state and local candidates and information about the candidates and their background/qualifications. It was very informative and at least gave you some information to put with the names.

How is the voting process going at CES? I wondered this morning how that was going to fly. To have hundreds of visitors into that school during a school day? I actually wondered about it when they switched the polling place. Where are you voting when you go to CES?
Not sure, I voted at 10:30 this morning also, don't know what number I was...at the Rehobeth Community Center on 210 - It was crowded and rain was coming down fairly steady - from what the radio said I expected no one would be there, but passed a few places to vote in the area and they were all hopping by the traffic and parking.
I was wondering how it was going to be set up as well and it isn't too bad. You park in the bus parking lot and enter the back of the gym. There are signs on the other school doors saying no authorized visitors allowed. I don't know if they are locked or not. It wasn't crowded and things went pretty smooth.
i was #591 at CES around 3:30 today. Wish they had put signs out front other than the front door that the voting was around back. After hopping through the rain on crutches to the front door, had to get back in the car and go around back to do it all over again  The folks there were great and i loved sitting at the table to vote and discussing the candidates with all the others there. Everyone please get out and vote and if you don't know about the candidates for any one or two things, just leave it blank - please make an informed vote.
