If large-busted women work at Hooters, do one-legged women work at IHOP? If so, how is it appropriate to tip your waitress?
"servers" get paid $2.13 an hour, rule is that minimum you leave 15%, however surprisingly most on average are pretty low, lucky if ya get 10% I Usualy leave at least 25% of course I am "server" hehe
Actually, the standard is 10% in most localities unfortunately. i, like you, always tip between 25 and 35% dependent on the service.
I always thought the standard was 15%, and I usually round it up at least to the next quarter -- more for especially good service. Here's some interesting information on tipping from one of my favorite sites, How Stuff Works: http://people.howstuffworks.com/tipping.htm
i guess i took my assumption of 10% from what most people feel is adequate to tip (i personally don't agree with it).
Oh, good, another thread on tipping. (no pun about the one legged woman intended) Back in my salad days, the "usual" tip for a waitress was 10%. It is now 15%, although I'm not sure when it changed. I know that restaurants pay their waitstaff less than minimum (by law), with the intent of tips making up the difference. However, I still tip based on service. I will start with 15%, but poor service will reduce it (I rarely go below 10%). Good service always gets better (25% - 30% or more). For those of you who are waiters and waitresses, don't complain. If you do a good job at making my dining experience a good one and you'll get a better tip. On the otherhand, if you don't care about me, why should I care about you?
I wondered how long it was going to take for someone to mention the JOKE portion of his post ....
I think the entire post was a joke, (a friend told me it was on Two And A Half Men), but we'll have to wait for Oy to enlighten us. LOL
Yes, it was on Two and a Half Men last night. 15% is the standard tip. That's what I tip for normal service. If it's really exceptional, 20%, and if it's below par, 10%. If it's something really horrendous that really ticks me off, they get my two cents.
I saw a study that was done a couple of years ago that showed no statistically significant tip differential for Indifferent service verses great service. Personally I tip 20% unless service is noticeably off then 10%. Maybe twice in my life I left nothing, usually if service is that bad we just get up and leave without eating (Like I did at the Scotsman Restaurant at Grandfather Mountain earlier this year).
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I've ever had the opportunity to tip a 1-legged person. *ponder* On average, I tip 20 percent. More, for better service. Less, for worse service. I try to remember that the waiter/waitress shouldnt be held acountable for my whole dining experience. I'm a very good tipper, if my party was treated right ... I usually just say "heck with doing the math" and over-tip.
I too live by...15% for standard good service, 20-30% for great service, and 10% or less for poor service. I've also started being very assertive about resturants. If I have a bad experience, I call their corporate office and let them know. If I have a great experience, I do the same. I just got tired of paying to eat somewhere and walking out unsatisfied.
I hate tipping...completely abhor the practice of tipping. Worse still is the practice of adding a gratuity to the bill of parties a certain size or larger. Pay the dang waitstaff a decent wage and put it on the price of the food and beverages up front. That being said, I'm a pretty good tipper
What with their limited hours and cash only policy? LOL .... we have eaten there but once in the last six years of spending a week in the area each year. The Highland Store next door was pretty interesting for Christmas gifts until this past spring when they were building the new facility.
Wife is part scottish, which hit the pocketbook kind of hard at the Hiughland Store. As for the restaurant, if I was desperate I would go to the gas station across the street before I would go there again.
