I find GPAs to be very subjective. I read many of the comments on the way EOGs are handled and some posters find it to be a mockery. Though not perfect, we have to have some ruler in which to try and gauge the effectiveness of these people in whom we entrust our kids everyday. And an easy "A" doesn't do that in my book. Thus as for SATs, I feel they somewhat level the college entrance playing field for all. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - http://wral.com/news/state/story/2941867/ Winston-Salem, N.C. — Wake Forest University is dropping its requirement that students submit SAT or ACT test scores to be admitted to the school. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the school will announce Tuesday that the test will be optional for the freshman class, starting in 2009. The newspaper reported that university officials decided to make the tests optional after reviewing research that shows the tests favor wealthier students. Admissions director Martha Allman says it's the right and fair thing to do. Allman says she expects many students will continue to submit their scores. School officials say they will make admissions decisions based on high school curriculum and grades, combined with written essays, extracurricular activities and evidence of character and talent.
What this should have said was Minorities didn't do well. So to keep up with our required ratios...we have dropped the test that show us who are eligible and who aren't. What a croc!
When it comes to education don't assume that minorities don't do well. At MIT a large percentage students are Asian, and a lot of them I met they came from very poor families. These kids got into such a prestigious school because they work hard and set their goal high. Those lazy don't. So the decision from Wake Forest to drop the entrance exams will encourage lazy students to be more lazy and will sabotage thier reputation and ranking.
