I can't believe Commissioner Carver's quote in this article. I am incensed that just because no one showed up to this meeting to express opposition that approval was a forgone conclusion. I do beleive that a lot of opposition was voiced at previous meetings. I also think it is laughable that Comm. Carver would state that he is aware of the traffic congestion in this area, but since no one shows up 'he'll vote for it'. Let me get this straight...you are aware of the problem and you agree this will make it worse, but as an elected official responsible for the overall well being of the County you decide to allow Wal-Mart to come in and make it worse?

Real nice. Folks, turn out the vote and get rid of our commisioners.

If you feel so strongly ... why didn't you go to the meeting? Did you contact commissioners prior to the any meeting to express concern?

Out of town, simply put. I will save the consipracy theories for another time, but I feel that they removed this from the agenda, let things cool down and then sneaked it back in with little notice.

My gripe is not so much that this is a Wal-Mart, but the suspicion that these projects do not need public approval. Technically, they don't. However, when the commisioners state in their own words that this will make a bad traffic are even worse then I have a problem with their ability to "enhance the quality of life for present and future generations of the people of Johnston County" as per their mission statement.

Growth cannot and should not be stopped, but it can be managed.

I was there last night and firmly believe that this will not happen here!

    Walmart

This is very sad news for the Cleveland area. I would have gone and voiced opposition had I known there was going to be a vote. The proposal for improvements to the road to handle the increase in traffic are laughable. And the elected officials that voted for this should be voted out of office.

As the courts say, Ignorance of the law is no excuse. If this issue was important enough, you would have found out and known about the vote.

You would have had to do more than look at the agenda to know about it last night.

    Yep, yep.
There is no real concern about notifying county residents about issues coming up for a vote.

    And?

Like i said, if it was that important...

People spend more time online trying to find the "right" hotel in some city that they are traveling to for a vacation than they would to prevent a development that they are so opposed to. Its easy to sit there and scream "I would have gone if i had known"...well take the time and "known" it.

I am on the e mail list for upcoming meetings. I never recieved one this time. I am in construction, so I am on the list to keep up to date on upcoming projects. Funny that no one was e mailed about this upcoming meeting, and that it was only listed by case number.

Granted. The link that Bissie showed the case number for Wal-Mart so the info was accessible, correct? A phone call to the planning department, or even a series of calls by concerned people, could have kept everyone in the loop as to when what was doing and when. The county has never sent a mail to all county residents about upcoming "events". They do put up rezoning signs where land is to be rezoned, notices are put in the newspapers about it and on the web.

As an example about the school principal thread going on now where a mother is unhappy about the principal and whatnot. It is a situation that affects her so what has she done? Called the school, called the principal, emailed the principal, contacted the superintendent and so on. She has put a lot of effort into getting her situation resolved.

The same could have been done for the Wal-Mart. Thats all im saying.

    Joco commissioners/Walmart

The mission of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners is to provide leadership and support, and to advocate actions for an effective County Government that seeks to enhance the quality of life for present and future generations of the people of Johnston County.

This link should take you to the email for the county commissioners, let them know what you think of their efforts to enhance our "quality of life".

The arsebackwards way things seem to work around here grinder, folks are gonna be jumping all over this county after the fact for approving that wally world...especially with a unanimous vote and leaving the traffic problems to Walmart.

How was it that ODS Road was changed BEFORE any plans were approved for yet another new subdivision there???

Growth is good. Sneaking it under the table and then heading off for the beach house some developer gave you in exchange for your vote is bad! (Just an analogy folks, nothing factual)

This just amazes me, still. I, for one, support the building of new business for the area. Wal-Mart, Fart-Mart, Dirt-Mart....who cares? As long as it brings more business and MONEY to the area, why do you oppose it so much? I did not hear anyone griping about The Cleveland Draft House being built. Oh, heck, no! I would want a Wal-Mart rather than some place that some of the local rednecks can go get drunk and drive in the same area as my family and I. Wal-Mart customer vs drunk from the Draft House...........Hmmmm.........I think I will choose the Wally World customer.

If you people keep stopping the growth, you will eventually be left behind.

It's funny, no matter what anyone does someone is going to have a problem with it. Just my two cents.
