    Hi all!

My fiance and I will be moving to Clayton this summer (so excited!). Anyway, since we will be new to the area, we have NO idea where to start with the wedding planning.

We want to have our ceremony and reception at the same place. We'll probably have about 100 people, and we'd want at least a limited bar for everyone. Also, since we will be paying for the wedding ourselves, we are looking for a place that is resonably priced.

I'm assuming at least a few of you have been married in the Raleigh/Clayton, etc area, so any tips would be wonderful!

    Thank you all!

I second the "Landmark". My cousin was married there just this weekend. Beautiful place.

I don't know what kind of plans you have in mind, but if you're interested, a great balloon decorator can be located at:

They are out of Apex but do a lot of work in this area.

The Clayton Center hosts weddings. You can get married on stage and then have the reception in the lobby.

    Whoa Nelly!!!!

The key here is where are you from ....The reason I ask is because weddings here are very VERY different from those we had up north.
Here they use the church basement of rec room half the time or have a pig picken, (if you are lucky)/ Very few have alcohol or even a catered meal. Some feel if they give you cake and sweet tea - that is good enough. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but it sure can be a shocker when you are used to an open bar, a big catering hall and a band or DJ.
PM if you have questions. Congrats and good luck.

Peppercorns - be careful sterotyping. Maybe you haven't attended a lot of weddings here, but us southerners are just as classy as the rest. Careful...

You know I was kinda thinking the same to be honest. The last 3 or 4 weddings I have attended were NOT in a rec room but at the Barclay Villa/Castel, the Crabtree Marriot, Capital City Club and so on.... And they were all people born and raised in NC. Nothing wrong with a pig picking at a wedding either.... That is all the choice of the Bride and Groom... Nice high class wedding and then a casual and relaxed reception is also a good idea and very relaxing!! :)
    Just my 2 cents! LOL

Skip Raleigh/Clayton and keep on driving down to the beach.
Go to Wrightsville Beach. The Oceanic has a room above the restaurant you can rent out. Get married on the pier.

BIL did it last year and it was really nice.

    Agree.
Been to several southern NC weddings since moving here and all have consisted of a beautiful church for the service and either a catered meal at the church reception hall, country club weddings or a short drive to a banquet facility for a full course meal with dancing/DJ and these were souther born/raised families. Maybe it depends on the area of the state, city dweller versus country where it'd be harder to put on a wedding with all the works.

i think it also has to do with the bride/groom and what they can afford! some people dont wanna spend thousands and thousands for the wedding/receiption, they would rather spend all the money on a honeymoon!!

    Thank you all!

Thank you all for the ideas! I will have to check out each of those websites!

By "limited bar" I mean wine and beer only...bringing in a full bar with liquor tends to be a bit pricey, and my family and friends are all okay with wine or beer (if they choose to drink) and pop (or soda pop ;) ) if they choose not to drink.

You have all been so helpful, and if any of you think of more ideas..I am always open!

I recently contacted Cafe Luna in downtown Raleigh. It seems cute and the reviews I found online said they had good food. I'm slowly starting to contact other places to get pricing and such.

Does anyone have any ideas about wedding bands/DJs? I would prefer a band, but if anyone knows of a great DJ (that isn't too cheesey and won't make my family do too many "line dances" such as the electric slide, chicken dance) that would be great!

Thanks again, and I cannot WAIT to get to the area! :)

What you described was the 1,400 or so showers people down south have that serve cake sweet tea and pig. Now weddings around here aren't like that unless you are going to very small weddings. Showers are a big thing here too.... ugh just went to a wedding that had 5 different showers! 5!!
I mean, please tell me how much crap does 2 people need from Belks?
