    WEST BAND STUDENTS MAKE ALL-DISTRICT BAND – BENSON, N.C., January 12, 2007:

The West Johnston High School Band had 25 students selected as members of the 2007 Southeastern All-District Band on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Lakewood High School. This is the most students the school has ever had named to this prestigious ensemble and the most from any school in Johnston County this year. Seven hundred students from high schools throughout the thirty county Southeastern District auditioned to become a member of the All-District Band.

In addition, of the 25 West Johnston students that made the All-District Band, twelve of them are eligible to audition for the 2007 North Carolina All-State Band due to their high placement within their section. “We are extremely proud of all our students that auditioned for the All-District Band,” stated Director of Bands & Ensembles M. Lance Britt. “To have so many of our students selected for this prestigious ensemble is extremely exciting. Having twelve students eligible for the All-State Band is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”

Members of the All-District Band will spend February 9 – 10 at Overhills High School in Spring Lake, NC rehearsing with Dr. Steven Peterson, Director of Bands at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and Mr. James Cook, Director of Bands at Scotland High School in Laurinburg, NC. The 2007 All-District Band Concert will be held Saturday night, February 10, at 6:00 pm in the Overhills High School Auditorium. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.
