WEST JOHNSTON MARCHING BAND PREPARES FOR ANOTHER
MAGICAL SEASON WITH AN INVITATION TO PERFORM AT DISNEY WORLD

The magic continues as the West Johnston High School Marching Band begins
preparing for the 2005 marching band season on August 1st with band camp.
During band camp the students will begin to learn the music, marching
techniques, drill and other specialized skills necessary for successful
performances. Students in the West Johnston Band Program experience much
more than performances; they have the opportunity to represent Johnston
County and North Carolina throughout the nation; and they learn necessary
life skills such as communication, teamwork and commitment. Everyday at
West Johnston, Mr. M. Lance Britt, Director of Bands teaches the students
that success in life takes more than magic - with hard work and dedication
    anything is possible.

The students, staff and parents have proven that with hard work and
dedication anything is possible with unprecedented success during its first
3 years. The West Johnston Marching Band was North Carolina’s
representative in the 55th Inaugural parade honoring President George W.
Bush in January 2005. In 2004, the band placed 4th in its class and 21st in
the country at Bands of America Grand Nationals competition.

In its 4th season, West Johnston will continue to represent Johnston County
and North Carolina with pride and excellence both locally and nationally as
it performs and competes. This year the West Johnston Marching Band will
be competing in a Bands of America regional in St. Petersburg, Florida in
October and in Bands of America Grand Nationals competition in Indianapolis,
Indiana. The band has also received an invitation to perform in the Magic
Kingdom in Disney World on October 30, 2005. Mr. Britt believes that
representing Johnston County at Disney World is a wonderful opportunity to
    continue the magic.

This program and its magic will only flourish with the continued support of
our community. In August the community can support the band through various
fundraisers ranging from donating pennies to larger sponsorships and
enjoying family events such as family fun at Bingo or ice cream at
    Coldstone.

Our annual sponsorship drive is underway with various levels of
participation and advertising opportunities. Sponsors will help to provide
funding for instruments, equipment, music and specialized instruction for
our students. Ten percent of all sponsorships are designated for our
benevolence and scholarship funds that are used to assist our students. For
more information on sponsorship levels please go to www.wjhsbands.org or
call Jan Maust or Cindy Nyberg.

During the month of August, the West Johnston Band Parents Association is
sponsoring its Coin the Magic fundraiser. Collection jars and cups will be
placed throughout the community in participating businesses and homes.
Please support the band by contributing your loose quarters, dimes, nickels
    & pennies.

Guest scoop night is on August 17th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm with Directors
Lance Britt and David Duffy scooping and serving ice cream at the Coldstone
in White Oak Shopping Center in Garner. Then on August 27th the band will
be performing from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the grand opening of the Coldstone in
    Smithfield.

On August 20, 2005, the band parents association is hosting Bingo in the
cafeteria at West Johnston. A hot dog supper is at 6:00 pm and Bingo begins
at 7:00 pm. Please join us for an evening of family fun.

The first opportunity to see the students perform and experience their magic
will be at the Parent’s night on August 12th at 6:00 pm. The evening will
begin with a covered dish dinner. After dinner Mr.Britt and Mr.Duffy will
introduce the theme for the 2005 field show and the performance will follow
    at 7:30 pm.
