    West Johnston open guard places 7th in Nation during wgi world championship finals - BENSON, N.C., April 25th, 2007:


    West Johnston Open Guard placed 7th in WGI World Championships Finals on Saturday, April 14th in Dayton, Ohio after 3 spectacular performances from Thursday to Saturday.
    18 West students performed their show “J. Edgar Hoover” and brought the house down. The directors and kids were stopped throughout the 3-day competition and in Dayton to receive personal congratulations and praise.
    193 units were competing from all over the country and Japan, Canada, Great Britain and France.

    2004 – WGI World Championship Silver Medalist in Scholastic A in San Diego, CA,
    2005 – Semi Finalist in Scholastic Open in Dayton, OH
    2006 – Finalist 14th place in Scholastic Open in Dayton, OH
    2007 – Finalist 7th place in Scholastic Open in Dayton, OH

    West Johnston has been WGI regional finalists or champions in all WGI regional competitions since 2004. West Johnston Open Guard has also been AIA (Atlantic Indoor Association) gold medalists in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

    David Duffy, assistant director of bands at West Johnston, “The kids were simply AMAZING!! I’m so proud of them! They came together as a team and provided the audience with great entertainment during 3 phenomenal performances.” They were also true examples of sportsmanship by reaching out to all of the other teams with applause and words of encouragement and congratulations! I would also like to congratulate all of the North Carolina Winterguards for their outstanding performances at World Championships.

Their commitment and dedication to this activity is remarkable and once again they have represented our school, county and state with pride and dignity.”
