My son just got home from school and brought a letter home saying the school was in lockdown for "precautionary reasons", but it didn't say why. This wasn't a practice, this was real...anyone have any info on this?? I was stunned it didn't say why. My 2nd grader said he heard fast footsteps and sirens around the school...

Nobody knows anything? I guess I should call the school...I know a lot of people on here work/are associated with the school, thought for sure someone would know something!

Aat McGee's Elem, a Sheriff's Deputy come by our school about 3:15. There was a class of 5th graders outside and he told the teacher to get the class inside. There had been a man, in a van, riding by Westview and waving a gun for the kids to see. So, we had a lockdown too.

Just so you know, they are not sure if it was a gun, or a camera.

well, that makes me feel better anyway. I didn't know if some crazy person was in the building, or if someone had a gun in the school, or what...I know people do crazy things these days, so you never know...

Well, that's good to know. The sheriff just said a gun. I hope it was a camera, but then again, why was he waving a camera at the kids? Anyways, it was good to see how quickly our teachers and staff react and get the situation under control. Everyone should feel extra safe with there kids under their care.

Cleveland Elementary was in a lock-down too but no info came home except from the kids chattering. I guess it was a little scary for the older one because they knew it wasn't just a test drill but the teacher wouldn't tell them why.

My daughter witnessed the incident. She was with her friends playing jump rope and she said they saw someone take their picture. Someone on the bus said there was a gun but she didn't see that.

There sure alot of luckdowns lately at schools. My brother who is a HS teacher in PA had a lockdown yesterday after students found a 10th grader stabbed in the stomach with scissors. We found out today that he tried to kill himself. it sure is crazy out there.

    Lockdown at Westview???

I was helping the teacher with a craft today when the lockdown was called. the kids were great and the teacher also. It was kinda weird to be huddled in a group of kids, teacher and myself in the dark. all lights were cut off..the door locked and blinds closed. My daughter said that there was a message from the principle when she cked her phone messages. he stated that everthing was under control and to call the school if a question. Again the school seems to be very prepared for these incidents. Thanks, Macy

Anyone ever heard any more actual "facts" on this? I found nothing on WRAL or the N & O websites on it. My 1st grader came home and said they had a code 300 (??) and that it was real. We asked him what it was and he said "they all go to a room with the lights off and sit on the floor very very quiet". He said he did not know why.

Let us know if you find out. I am curious, My child is not there but my nephew is and his parents said they heard nothing about it. He was absent that day.

They never gave out any information on it. I didn't call because I found out what happened from a few people...no one's story matches exactly, but this is what I heard:

Apparently there were some kids outside and a car came throught the parking lot holding something out of the window towards the kids. One kid thought they were taking their picture with a camera, another kid said it looked like a gun. Since no one was sure, they had the lockdown. They also moved the kids inside Cleveland Elementary quickly because they're right down the road. I don't understand why they had McGees inside too, like someone here mentioned earlier, they're miles away.

So, it probably was nothing, but just to be safe they had the lockdown. It's better to be safe than sorry...

It makes no sence to me why someone would even be driving around in a parking lot of a school if they don't have a child there. Thank god nothing happened. Better safe than sorry. These days you never know what someones thinking even if it is a camera they were holding out the window they had no buissness doing that imo.
