My Mom's neighbor has a Pit that just has a litter of 13. The mother killed them all. Half chewed!

I know...survival of the fittest, etc... But ALL of them?

    Pups

Sometimes a mother dog will kill the pups because there is something wrong with them. Maybe it is something that you cant see, but she can smell or sense that something is not right with the pup.

Zoo, are you out there? Zoo would probably have a better explanation for this type of behavior. She is the Johnston County Dog Whisperer!! She has helped me out with some good advice for my "furry kids" problem behaviors.

I think the underlying meaning is that we all need to get our pets spayed or neutered :(
That is terrible to hear, though.

Here are some things I found when searching about this:

"They need to be in a place they feel 100% secure in. It must be quiet and warm. It had to have been in a secure whelping box.
If it was noisy and she did not feel comfortable with the location it would have made her nervous."

"It can not deal with stress because of the bad nerves.
The fact that this dog has killed its babies and ate them only confirms the fact that the dog has a head problem. Under no circumstance is this a normal reaction."

Not for sure if this is at all accurate... but it's food for thought.

My sista's dog did that to a few of her pups. One does "circles" and is (in my opinion - retarted).

Usually it is just one (or maybe two) if it is for medical reasons. The only time I saw the whole litter, it was stress and a bit of mental problems with the mom. She would get panicked and run over and bit one in the head and kill it.

I would imagine this dog would do it again to the next litter. Poor pups.

Yeah, the stress thing sounds about right. Her owners have split up and just before she dropped the pups the wife decided to give her back to the husband. Add that to his new Pit that's about ready to go into heat and CHAINED to the other side of the yard, ya get lots of stress. ...AND the yard is FENCED! He's just not bright enough to close the gate I guess.

    people

    Thanks y'all

I really hope something is done to help these dogs soon. This is exactly what gives Pits a bad name...they are sometimes neglected and subjected in inhumane conditions, therefore they turn aggressive. I really don't like people...I much rather have the company of animals. :(
