About 5 years ago a bridge I crossed on I5 in Washington state dropped into the river about an hour after I passed over it. They currently have one of the best ratings with only 4% difficent, could be they realized the problem and took action.
Most of the bridges over the Neuse river around Clayton are very, very old. Every time I drive over them I wonder when they will be replaced. Which will be a huge project and probably close the road for months.
I've got a family member that retired from the top of DOT, another who retired from DOT supervising bridge welding, and a deceased friend who was a diver/bridge inspector. If you listened to them, you'd be scared to drive across anything. Our infrastructure is worn out. It's time to fix it. We got plenty of BS to cut and move $ around!
