Milwaukee Braves, then the Milwaukee Brewers, then the Atlanta Braves, then the Cincinnati Reds, now if I gave a damn it would probably be the Milwaukee Brewers again.
We went to see the Braves play the Cardinals when we lived just outside St.Louis once. Bored out of my mind!!!! DH was active duty, so we couldn't afford enough beer at the stadium to make it enjoyable. :jester: My Grandmother loves some Braves though.
I got to meet Pete Rose once in real life. When I lived in Boca Raton, Florida I had Pete Roses old telephone number. Most of the time I would let calls for Pete Rose go to my answering machine. One time I did pick it up and it was the assistant coach for the San Diego Chargers. The coach was over on Marco Island (west coast FL) and was going be on the east coast in a few days. I explained to him that I had Pete Roses old number. I gave him the phone number to Pete's restaurant and that Pete does his sports show from there. Well for grins and giggles I drove over to the restaurant and I went to give the information to Pete Rose. I waited for him to get out of his radio booth. I walked up to him and politely told him my name and gave him the information about the coach from the chargers. He grabbed or should I say snatched the paper out of my hand. Personally he was the rudest person I have ever met. About two days later my phone rings and its the coach from the chargers. He said the only way that Pete knew he was coming was by me giving the info to Pete. The waitress' never gave Pete the info. The coach wanted to buy me a drink. I got a beer courtesy of the assistant coach and his autograph. And to this day I hope that Pete Rose never ever gets into the baseball hall of fame.
BRAVES...but I was born and raised in Atlanta, so I guess that's just natural. The "Varsity" and the Braves...two of the things I miss the most! My family loves baseball and will pretty much watch anybody if the game is good. On a similar note, I enjoyed watching the ACC tournament this past week and even sent my son and his friends to the Championship game on Sunday. Wish a local team would have made it to the final but they had a great time, anyway!
Varsity is a must stop in Atlanta, although I probably ate at the Athen's one more often. Still have my paper Varsity hat! Back when I lived in the Atlanta area if you left your car at Lenox mall odds are someone would leave a pair of tickets under your windshield, they were that bad!
