Ok, so I recently pulled my child from a local daycare who I've had SEVERAL problems with. The latest being that they charged a $50 "art" fee and I hadn't seen art in 2-3 weeks. It was due Sept. 27, I paid at the the first of the month with everything else b/c i didn't know we would be switching...childs last day was sept. 28. I asked for my $50 back and was told first that they "didn't do refunds" then was told that my check would be there waiting for me...never was. It has now been 4-5 weeks since initially told i would get this refund, I was told Monday of this week that it was mailed the previous Sat. I still haven't recvd. it. Should I cut my losses and proceed with filing complaints with the BBB or just keep waiting in hopes that the check will arrive b/c she "would NOT lie to me!"....which personally made me LOL! Keep in mind, this daycare is not a home daycare, is an actual business and this is not the first problems I've had...what to do???

by my calculation it has not been 4 to 5 weeks. You said that it was on sept 27. so before you over react give it a chance. If you still don't receive I would formally write them a letter requesting the refund and reminding them they already promised you a check.

I let her know the 2nd week of Sept. that I wanted the refund, that is when I was initially told it was at the daycare waiting for me...then 2 weeks later on his last day there, the 27th, i was told that it would be mailed out on the 28th...then this past monday is when I was told that it was mailed on last Sat. So many lies...this is a smally daycare, and I've def. learned my lesson...

My recommendation (as well as Clark Howard)...

Get everything in writing. Do not do such business over the phone. Make all communication through registered (or at least return receipt) snail mail.

I am not sure but I think you can complain to the NC childcare commission with some complaints you may have on the way they run their daycare if they have broke any laws they can loose stars or it may prevent them from recieving stars which is not good for a daycares buissness. As far as your money I would call them and tell them to give me my money or I will take it outta your azz lol goodluck some of the newer daycares suck they have all sorta hidden charges

This wasn't a "hidden" charge per se...I knew about it, and had paid it in the past, but with him leaving the day after it was due, I feel it would be the correct thing to do to refund that money, as he wouldn't be using it. Plus, no art for 2-3 weeks and having to pay for an "art fee" kinda makes me mad!

Well I would call again and ask if its been mailed and if she says yes ask her to verify your address you wanna make sure theres not a mistake because you have not recieved it yet .If theres not a mistake she will get the hint your not going to just forget about this and maybe she will send it.

Forget about it. It isn't worth it. JMO.

I did call about it! I called today and was told that she felt "harrassed"...FYI, I've called once on Monday and was told if it wasn't recvd, to call back...called back Wed. morning and said, I still don't have it, then again today. JMO, IF she honestly mailed it, I'd be concerned with someone else having my bank info. I KNOW this daycare is one that I wouldn't want/recommend to ANYONE, so yeah, anyone who wants to know, message me! I'll happily spread bad word on this one!

Heck, I'd post the name of the day care right here. Forget PM'ing. Let her have it. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising . . . whether it be good or bad.

Ha! I would LOVE to...but since she's one of the "typical johnston county" ones...(which I am too...FYI!) she would probably threaten to sue me! but yeah, she's a horrible daycare..I have found out since pulling my child out of there that she was serving the children left overs from her family from the night before..hasn't been caught yet! and she is now charging the same per week as a 4 star facility, and she's only 2 star. Her staff turnover ratio is VERY high, as her and her husband aren't great to work for...I've heard! and the staff she has now, they constantly talk on the cell phone and have little to no interaction with the children...and you can NEVER reach the owner, she always has to be gotten up with thru her staff, then she will decide if it's convenient for her to call you back..again, this is just my opinion, and what I've seen in the time my child was there

I WISH we were allowed that! You are VERY fortunate for that! My state salary doesn't allow it! I don't know, we're young, and trying to do the best we can, and for her to take my money like this is not only very upsetting, but has also put me in the position of having to scrape by more than i already do! So yeah, still mad, but it's def. a lesson learned!

UPDATE::: I filed a complaint with the BBB yesterday, so hopefully something will be done! She just shouldn't be allowed to take people's money like that with NOTHING to show for it!
