Since the GOP loss thread got turned into a music thread I thought I would just start one. Let's see if we can inspire some real musical discussion. I use my iPod on my boat a lot so I tend to have a little of everything. The first things I loaded were The Who "Who's Next" Aerosmith "Pump" The Alman Brothers "Eat a Peach" The Black Crowes "Amorica" Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" Black Eyed Peas "Monkey Business" Dusty Springfield "Dusty In Memphis" Elvis "Top Ten Hits" Renee Olstead "Renee Olstead" Joss Stone "The Soul Sessions" Los Lonely Boys "Los Lonely Boys" Stevie Ray Vaughn "Couldn't Stand the Weather" Waylon, Willie, et.al. "Wanted! The Outlaws" Of course I have the obligatory Buffett, Santana, and Clapton So...What's on your iPod
I like turning political discussions into discussions about music. That had sort of become a hobby of mine lately.  I don't have an I-Pod, an MP3 player, and I don't download music on my computer, even though I could. I have a stereo. It has components, including a duel well cassette player and a semi-automatic turn table, (I got rid of the 8 track a while back) and real speakers. So, I almost didn't look at this thread. Call me crazy, but I would rather chill in my den listening to music with the "hall" setting on my surround sound than go mobile (although going mobile was good enough for the Who, wasn't it.) And the vinyl still sounds better than CDs. That being said, good list. Eat a Peach is certainly a good one to have on there, but I can never remember whether I like that one or Brothers and Sisters better. Another one that's just too good to leave off is Stevie Ray Vaughn's Double Trouble (I can't find my copy of that one; I think I have the name correct, the one with Crossfire on it.) There's just too much good stuff out there to narrow it best lists, but it sure is fun to try, isn't it. BTW, did anybody catch Los Lonely Boys with Santana? The closest they got to here was northern Virginia. I would have love to have seen that show! Happy listenin' Snuff
Oh, I almost forgot: anything by John Prine -- sweet revenge sweet revenge will prevail, without fail....
My iPod is pretty diverse, lets see here, I'll just name artists: 3 Doors Down, Alice in Chains, Arid, B-52's, Billy Idol, The Black Crowes, Buckcherry, The Cars, hmmmm lots in the C's and so forth...how about 1 from each letter...Def Leppard, Evanescense, The Flys, Great White, Howie Day, Incubus, Jet, The Killers, Led Zepplin - do have Los Lonely Boys, and some Lenny Kravitz too ;-), Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Ozzy Osborne, Pink Floyd, Queens of the Stong Age, Ringside, Snow Patrol, Talking Heads, U2, The Verve, and The White Stripes.
What a great idea, zoo. I think I can do an ABC list. Let me see... Allman Brothers; Beatles; Clapton (Eric); the Doors; Eagles; Foreigner; Grateful Dead; Hendricks (Jimi); Indigo Girls; Journey; Kansas; Little Feat; Moody Blues; Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; Outlaws; Pink Floyd; Queen; Rolling Stones; Santana; Traffic; U2; Vaughn (Stevie Ray); Who; Yes; ZZ Top
I really like listening to vinyl as well. My turntable is broke (needs a new belt) I would love to get it fixed but I'm not sure where to take it. I own about 200 albums. A lot of music was just meant for vinyl. Its hard to listen to Dylan on a CD. I like the iPod's versatility and capacity. I can put almost my whole CD collection on mine. I like it for the car or boat because it never skips. I enjoy listening to music at home as well but sometimes you just have to Go Mobile.
Per iTunes I have over 800 different artist on mine, so I ain't even going to start. But it has heavy doses of Classical, Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, and a lot of Rock.
I had the same problem with my Technics turntable that I bought in 1977. I couldn't find a replacement belt, but I did find a new turntable. Best Buy sells them. I ordered it online (how's that for an anachronism -- ordering a turntable online?!) then picked it up at the local store, which was 40 minutes away where I lived at the time. I think I paid maybe $100 to $150, and the cartridge was included. It works fine, sounds good. Truth be told, I probably listen to music as much in my truck as anywhere. It has a CD player and I really like the way it sounds. I am one of those who believes that records produce a "warmer" sound than CDs, although I know that doesn't make any sense acoustically. Maybe it's that my dogs are happier when I play records and that makes me feel more at ease while listening. Snuff
Let's see; Lots of Judas Priest, AC/DC, Disturbed, Strapping Young Lad, Motorhead, Metallica, Ozzy and assorted other versions of musical adrenaline!
No iPod here either. I do have a 50 disc CD player. What have I listened to lately? B52's, REM, BNL, Spawn sndtrk, Thrill Kill Kult, and preschool music.
I do have an iPod and let's see how close to a A-Z list I can generate. 3 Doors Down, 4HIM, Alabama, Jimmy Buffett, Casting Crowns, Dire Straits, Eagles, (The) Fray, Gin Blossoms, Hootie & the Blowfish, Isaacs, Journey, Kansas, Tim McGraw, Newsboys, Oak Ridge Boys, Tom Petty, REO Speedwagon, Snow Patrol, Chris Tomlin, Keith Urban, Bill Withers, Rachael Yamagata, ZZ Top
uhhh, Actually Grace the exact problem you're describing can occur when using iTunes to download music and using another program to update your iPod. Basically, sometimes the iPod will lose its authentication, or it will change during a firmware update (the most recent iPod firmware update modified the S/N of all iPods, which nullified the authentication) and if you don't run iTunes with it plugged in, it will not be reauthorized, and none of the songs protected by any form of DRM will be playable. When that happens your iPod will skip the song immediately just as you described. I don't quite know where you get the idea that RealPlayer is better than iTunes, you're the first person I have ever heard suggest RealPlayer as more than just an annoying program you have to run to support their proprietary and overused (less so now that flash is growing into a stronger multi-media role) streaming protocol, but i suppose to each her own. My iPod has (favorites only): B.B. King Bob Dylan Cold Daft Punk (my "WAKE UP!!! NOW!" Music) Dane Cook Disturbed The Doors Dream Theatre Flogging Molly Fort Minor (guilty pleasure ;\ remember the name is good for shooting games =D) Gnarls Barkley Jim Gaffigan Jimi Hendrix Kasabian Kill Hannah Korn M.C. Hammer (cant forget the 90s, eh? =x) Marcy Playground Matchbox Twenty The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Mitch Hedberg Monster Magnet Monty Python Motley Crüe NickelBack (another guilty pleasure ;x every song sounds exactly the same, but every song sounds just as good =D) Nine Inch Nails OK Go Phil Ochs (i found that doing a research project on protest music) The Presidents of the United States of America Queen RA Rage Against the Machine Red Hot Chili Peppers Reel Big Fish Relient K Santana Soil System of a Down Tenacious D (<3) They Might Be Giants Thousand Foot Krutch Ugly Cassanova i skipped lots of stuff (mostly obvious or not so good stuff)
