Mattie has all of a sudden started "corralling" Shelby. :? Mattie is right beside Shelby everytime the dog gets up to do anything. The cat is "talking" to Shelby like she's p'd off. What has gotten into the Cat??? :? (who normally does nothing but sleep, eat, pee and crap)

    Ideas?? :?

Might be redirected aggression. Separate Mattie and Shelby immediately for Shelby's safety. Google "redirected aggression" for lots of good articles.

Another thought - might Mattie be ill? (Cats are good at hiding illness, until it is severe.) She might need a vet checkup. However, if this is redirected aggression, be careful to protect yourself as well as Shelby.

AL, I don't think it's that she's mad at Shelby. She's not growling or swatting at her (never has). She's rubbing herself all over the dog. She has been fixed, so she's not in heat. She has been more active today than ever? :? Maybe she needs another kitty to play with? Someone ask DH if I can get another kitty for Mattie?

(hold your ears when he answers, he!! no)

After my so sweet suggestion about birds to your DH and his rather "quick" reply, i don't think i will ever have the nerve to suggest another pet

Didn't mean to alarm you. I have seen redirected aggression in my cats on occassion and it has subsided after a short separation. But can be scary.

Tell DH that a young kit would solve any and all household conflict
