I know when I plug it into the computer the first thing it does is synchronize. But, this is a new computer and there are no songs for it to sync with. I lost alllll of my music  It's embarrassing how many songs I had. .. So will my songs stay put or go away? I have an iTunes gift card but I don't want to lose the 100(s?) of songs I have left just to buy a few more. I didn't think of that when I bought the card. So... will they stay or should I just recharge on the iHome?..

I believe that using the iTunes program if you try to sync you will lose your music. The last time I had the issue it was with an older version of itunes and they may have put more warnings in place.

You will probably need to use another software package and violate the DRM if you wish to save them.

honestly, you shouldnt be screwed. when you download the itunes player onto your new computer, and log in, it should have all your songs.

You can edit settings when itunes initially comes up and recognizes your iPod to auto sync, or notify to sync.

knock on wood, I've never had a problem with mine.....and the kids have had one going on 4 years, and no problems (other than the occasional reset).

Our family has three iPods. Only one works and I'm getting ready to send the other two back a we have warranties.

I have my computer setup that I have to specify where the iPod syncs. I like Real Player better than iTunes but my teen loves iTunes.

I back my music and other stuff up to MyBook, which I bought a while back. It is a separate item from a computer and works well.
