I called a place in Garner once I think it is on Loop Road or Mechanical Drive. I think it is F & G Distributing. A couple of years ago I got rid of the larger rental tank that we used for gas logs so I was going to put a couple of 100 lb tanks in series to omit the rental price. I was told that I could not put a gauge on the 100 lb cylinder to see how much gas was in the tank. In the process I found a gas company going out of business and I bought the tank from them. I think it was around $200 for the 140 lb.

Or try looking at Northern Hydralics or Agri Supply

I agree that the extra cost may not be worth it for the 140# tank. We have 2 gas fireplaces that we used a TON last winter (almost every night for several hours at a time, and more on the weekends). We filled the tank once in November (when we bought it) and then once in February. For a normal winter, I would imagine we wouldn't have to do the refill. And we still have almost a full tank left from that February refill.

Does your fireplace have a blower? If not, I'd spend the money on the blower. Also, do you have a ceiling fan in the room with the fireplace? Again, if not, I'd invest the money in a good ceiling fan to circulate the hot air.

I think just about any propane place will do it. From reading this and the other propane thread I think someone is upset with just about every one of them.
