I've written about this before and used teh sites folks suggested. Technology Recycling people never called us. Tried freecycle, etc. I have an old(okay, so only 1 yo) DVD player, 2 computer monitors, and a CPU. Any more ideas? I hate to just dump this stuff somewhere in a landfill when I'm sure there is someone out there that could recycle it. Shoot, the DVD player can probably be fixed we just don'thave time. One of the computer monitors still works so really hate to just dumpt something that someone else can use. Any ideas, do send them my way.

    Thanks,

    Stephanie--mom to 7

We have taken all kinds of things(electronics, clothing, household items, giftware, etc.) to Cause for Paws on Sanderson just off 40 in Raleigh. They resell usuable items and the proceeds support homeless animals, spay and neuter programs and it's a tax donation for you.
Another shop is Retails, which we haven't been to yet. They are off Old Wakeforest Road in Raleigh.

The landfill where I am will not take micro electronic stuff anymore. Especially monitors. Melt the CPU down and accumulate the gold!!

You could sell it in Ebay. You'll be surprised how many people are willing to buy electronic junk. Be wary on computer hard drive - need to destroy it before you can sell the rest of the parts. People are buying hard drive like crazy so they can steal personal info (credit card nbr, social security nbr, etc) from the hard drive. Good luck

You know I hear that all the time? What gets me is that people will swipe their card all the time and never really look at the receipt or even leave their copy at the store, or give their number over the phone, .... and when they trash their old PC they destroy the hard drive????? For one thing, unless you typed your credit data into the PC it's not on there in a readable format. Gotta love the American general public and their idiocy.

Thank you for clearing that up! I am always WAY more worried about a service person stealing my number than anything I type on a PC. I have started using cash a whole lot more, because it really bothers me to be handing my debit card to the McDonalds cashier. No offense to anyone who works at McDonalds.
