With the identity crisis in this area (all the different addresses like Benson, Clayton, Willow Spring, Garner, Angier, etc) where do you tell people that you live? Does it depend on how much you think the other person knows about this area? Example: I live near the WJ high school area off Sanders Rd. , so I tell people that I live at "McGees X-Rd" if I think they know the local area. If not , I say "north of Benson" (Benson is my address). If it's someone far away , say from other parts of the state, I say: " about 25 miles SE of Raleigh". If it's someone from another state, I usually say I'm from the Raleigh area. So, where do YOU tell people you're from???
I do the exact same thing that you do, except I never say the Benson part since our address is Willow Spring.
Either or both of the following: East of Raleigh 15 miles west of where I95 and I40 intersect Always for out of state directions.
Same here! With locals, I frequently find myself explaining that I don't live in Willow Spring, but about 12 miles east of Willow Spring. Too bad we don't get to vote in the beer referendum, since we live in Pleasant Grove township, not Cleveland township. But the township only means anything to people who are involved in elections, voting, etc., or real estate title searches, so I don't usually bother to mention the township.
For many parts of rural Wake/Johnston...its about like saying I'm 10 minutes from everywhere but live in the middle of no where.
I find that many people know Stephenson's BBQ as a landmark. I just say the McGee's Crossroads area, not far from there. They usually know it.
Has anyone applied for a job, and when they see your address is Benson, they start to wonder why you'd want to commute from so far away, and you have to explain that you don't live anywhere near Benson?
CLeveland Area My address says Clayton. I still want it to be called Cleveland Springs - I think that sounds pretty.
i say to locals Cleveland or to Raleigh folks the 40/42 area. To out of state folks i say just south of Raleigh.
