Which ballot? Repubs, Dems, non-partisan?

I am a voter registered in Johnston County as an independent. Does that mean that I must use the non-partisan ballot in the May 6 primary? It does not list any presidential candidates. Can I simply ask for the ballot of my choice? If not, is it too late to declare a party?

You can choose either the Republican or the Democratic Party ballot. The Non-Partisan ballot is on the back of that. If you were registered with either party, you would not be able to vote in the other party's primary, but unaffiliated voters can take their pick. You can see sample ballots here:

It is not too late to register, or to change information such as your address, but it is too late to change party affiliation before the primary.

P.S.: Your registration will be changed to the party whose primary you vote in. If you still want to be unaffiliated, you will have to go back to the Board of Elections after the primary to change it back.

Oh I'm so glad. Finally, I get to vote in a primary that may make a difference. :)
