Last night my contractor was trying to install my new whirlpool tub, while he was installing the drain pvc piping it fell onto the corner of it and cracked. I am getting fed up bc it has been 10 months into my new addition being built and I am still not able to use it. According to him, it can be repaired...so here I am hunting for someone that can do it. DOES ANYONE HAVE WISDOM FOR ME?
Why are you searching.. tell said contractor to get it fixed if he wants anymore money. It shouldn't be your problem if in fact he broke it.
Yes it is his responsibility. But like I said it has taken 10 months to get to this point of my addition when it should have only taken 3. Getting ahold of him is a hassle and he blames it on his cell phone, he blames others for his own f*** ups. He claims he is broke and people have not paid him for work that he has done ($8000). The HVAC guys have been calling me for payment. I signed a contract with him to do this job and paid him for it. I AM JUST TIRED. I even had to find the people to do my own granite for my vanity and around the tub. Can the tub be fixed??? He says so...:banghead::banghead:
I hope you still owe him a chunk of money... Who is this shister so others are aware of his tactics. We hear to much of this crap going on.
If anything...he owes me for the granite. I only needed the tub in and plumbing done on it and we were done. He still owes the HVAC guys $2300. The contract I signed was with him and he is paid. He does great work, but...his name is David Doucet
Sounds like a load of BS to me (not on your part, but on the contractors). Either he's ripping you/others off, or his business is on it's way out the door, and he's trying to get money anyway he can. Good luck, and I agree, you shouldn't be paying, he should! Didn't you come on here a while ago asking for people's recommendations for this job? I was just curious if someone on here recommended him. I'm glad it's not my hubby, although it wouldn't take him 10 months to do an addition, he builds houses in less time than that!!
I do not owe him any money and yes I came on here searching for someone to do the addition. He was one that was recommended. Like I said, his work is good but I think he took on too many other jobs instead of just concentrating on this one. He lost track of who owed him what. For example...two months ago we went over the budget and his records were missing $1600 that I had payed him. Well, hindsight is 20/20.
He might be a good contractor, but not a good businessman. If a contractor is installing a tub on their job and breaks it, or anything else during the install, they are responsible, not you. And it should be replaced/repaired in a timely manner. Period. If not for legal reasons, but just to keep their name out of the mud. My husband has had to eat more expenses than we'd ever like to admit, some his mistakes, some not, but it's better to take care of something quietly than have someone smearing your name around town. And because of that, he has a lot of call backs and friends of friends of friends that keep referring him.
You should NEVER pay in full until the job is done! The contactor then has no motivation to do the work.
I here ya. All of the research on him that I did got good reviews. I get he just fell on some hard times. He has had to get a new job and is not building anymore. He is in the hole and is out of money. I will probably end up getting it repaired and charging him for it bc I am not paying him anymore that what our contract reads.
I understand, and hope everything turns out well for you. On a side note, something my husband has noticed happening, to any of you that are looking to get any kind of renovations done anytime soon... Hubby has always been a builder first, but also did remodels and additions. Some builders would never do that, because they were "too good" or too busy. Now that things are slow, and times are tough, houses aren't selling, and home builders now have to turn to remodels/additions to stay in business. He's been getting way underbid by these builders, who have absolutely no idea how to price up these jobs, because it's a completely different kind of job than building a house. In fact, builders that have been building houses all their lives have asked him to help him bid jobs, because they know he's been doing it all these years, and never got out of it (good thing!) So if you have anyone bidding on jobs for you, please make sure you get references of the TYPE of job you're doing. If you're remodeling a kitchen, you want that kind of reference. And if you get a couple prices, and one seems A LOT lower than the other(s), that should be a red flag! I just tell you this, because in the end, they may end up charging you a lot more than you originally thought, because of the additional costs incurred that they didn't expect!
To answer your question: These guys in Angier are pretty darn good. I watched them take a massive scratch out of a cultured shower stall and when they were done you couldn't find the repair spot. surfacespecialists.com
