Don't think it will even be close in the Sheriff's race. Steve Bizzell with at least 60% of the vote.

In the Commissioner's race...think it will be Wade Stewart over CP Thompson

I have high hopes for CP Thompson. He has some good ideas.
I think the current sheriff has a lot of support, I will be surprised if Bizzell is not re-elected.

    I agree with Steve B! He's great.
I honestly don't know the views on CP and Wade. If anyone has that info, can you post it?

C.P. has what kind of good ideas? The only idea he has, that he thinks will solve a problem is to levy impact fees and land transfer fees on people. Mr. Thompson has no ideas.

That is absolutely untrue! Mr. Thompson does not favor impact fees or any additional land transfer fees.

He does favor earmarking the first year's property tax from new, single family homes, for school construction. This is the regular Johnston County Property tax that every property owner pays. His point is, that when new homes are built, new revenue is created, because those homes did not previously form part of the tax base. We should set aside that new revenue for new needs - schools - that result from the increased population.

Wade Stewart favors funding new school construction with bond issues. The advantage to that is, taxes don't go up until later, when we have to pay the bonds plus the interest on the bonds, and perhaps we won't notice the reason our taxes are going up is that the county commissioners did not choose a pay as you go method of financing schools in prior years.

Can't say that I know that much about CP Thompson. Basing my assesment of the race that it seems Wade Stewart is spending a lot more money on advertising and signs. That usually means victory in a County Commissioner race...especially when you have the backing of the local GOP.

I think Fred Smith will probably get at 70% in his race against token opposition. However, the more interesting questions I have is:

If Smith is re-elected, then runs for Governor in 2008...who will be the candidates for the State Senate from Johnston County in 2008?

One name I've heard for the State Senate if Fred Smith runs for Governor in 2008 is: Rep. J.H. Langdon

    Any others?
